I replaced my rear shoes not to long ago, so I know the squeaky noise is not from the shoes needing to be replaced.

It only happens once i apply put the break on and then take it off, so its only once i release the pressure. It just makes a high pitch squeak noise. Any thoughts or ideas on what is making this noise?

its a 1998 honda civic (4 door) with drum breaks.

Oh yeah, its also only coming from the pass-side rear drum, not the driverside

Just to inform, rear drums are rubbed on by "shoes" they arent called pads.

Its possible that your drum has gotten worn out. When you replaced the shoes, did you clean the assembly and regrease the springs and levers? drums get incredibly dirty in there, because they are almost sealed. Its possible the old shoes were a tad warped (radially) and the new ones are contacting at a slight angle, causing squeal. Does it sound like the squeal from a pad on rotor with no shims, or the screaming ringing that comes from the wear indicator on a brake pad (when the metal tab scratches the rotor's surface).?

It is also possible that when you put the drums back on, something got between the drum and the hub, causing a wobble which could turn into noise.

 

The back side of the shoes rub on the backing plate...it needs to be lubed with some high temp grease...it will go away. Common problem on the rear drums.

If the backing is rubbing on the drum, which i assume on a new car would not, doesn't that mean that something is installed wrong or misaligned or a spacer/shim is missing?
