h22's aren't exactly the most ideal motor to run boost. open deck, thin walls, seen enough blown h22's to know that one. i've seen many ppl who run very low boost on h22's without much problems but i'm not too sure about 15lbs. ask one of the turbo peeps here. you should check out the turbo thread on here. but i will say for the sake of argument that the tune/setup you have will determine whether you make or break it. literally. good luck.

myth.

H22's are great for boost as long as you arent incompetent.

Not all H22's are Open Deck.. H22A1's and the JDM H22A are closed deck.. OBD2 are normally Open Deck.

It doesn't matter if it's open or closed, just if the builder knows what he/she is doing and if it is build correctly. Exactly what 98vtec said.

my bad i was referring to the a4's. i was simply generalizing that ppl usually don't boost their h22's properly and blow the crap out of them. of course, on the other hand, i've seen some pretty damn beastly boosted h22's on here.

edit: so the myth of the frm's being thin[ner] bad for boost is false? sorry my assumption was he was plannin' on boostin' a stock motor the way he worded it.

so im better off doin the whole h22 swap rather than converting my si into a vtec. another thing is, i have kids so im running on a tight budget.

Neither. Boost your Si and properly tune it for probably around the same price if not a bit more. IMO, more fun and more power than any engine swap would yield.

so jus askin, how much boost can the 93 to 95 JDM H22a take? versus the 7 to 8 psi max pounds the 5th gen H22's can take.

tight budget and turbo should never be used in the same sentence.

if you already have the H23 and its in good shape, they are beastly boosting motors. lower compression than the 22's, and extra 0.1 of displacement (but i'm also biased )

plus you save... oh i dunno... anywhere between 1-3 grand by not swapping motors or heads.

I would say its about the same since the sleeves are composed of similar material.

If your goal is max hp per dollar, head/motor swaps are just a waste of turbo money.
