So i bought a set of Tokico HP blues and RSR lowering springs for my 92 VX hatch. After installing the front shocks and springs everything seemed to be ok, until i test drove the car. I heard a rattling noise from under the hood, so i turned back and parked in the garage. I opened the hood to find that the shock piston(the stainless steel part) pushed thru the pillow mounts and hit my hood. Happened on both sides. The Tokicos are the same length as the OEM shocks but the RSR springs are shorter than the stock ones. Is this my problem or did i forget a piece? Any info wil be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance.
Sure did!
Make sure it is the proper washer too... that big, beefy one. I've taken apart a guy's shock only to find that he has used a washer, like #6, in place of #14. It was all bent inwards and about to send the shock through the hood. It's very important that #14 is installed!
