tein hood shocks? **** that.. i did mine for FREE
PICS ARE UP!!
I did a search for tein hood shocks, hood dampers...and no write ups came up...so heres my little write up....
well since the little black things on my hatch window have been stripped (no hood shocks for the window)
i used those instead of spending the $180.00 on the teins...
I had to use alot of thinking on doing this....
---how to place the shock from the hood to the side bay area...
---witch way to place the shock so it lifts the hood at a certain angle instead of me having to pull up hard and then the shock expands and hood flys open...
and how to make a bracket so it will fit right onto the hood...
I used a little block to mount the thread from the shock to the hood...
1. first i had to figure out how much the shocks pressed... think it was around 50lbs
2. next i had to weigh the hood with a lil scale from the front... 20lbs aprox.
3. Then I messured the length of the shock while extended on the fender. aprox. 11.5 inches
4. Then I marked it all on the fenders and the hood.
5. drill holes just big ennough for the other end of the shock (in the inside fender)
6. Drilled holes for the bracket on the hood.
7. Jump up and down becasue it worked! whoo hoo
comments welcome...

haha yeah but the bracket is the only thing u need... because you cant really mount it just stright on the hood... you need some sort of L bracket or something...
pics will be up at about ... hmm.... 3ish today.

well when you compress the shock... you dont know the EXACT mesurements... thats why i just compressed it and messured it with a little space on the shock part... so there....11.5 inches is really... just what i used...and my hood is a lil lighter than some... so you will have to weigh your hood... it will probally weigh about 6-8 pounds more...
and just to inform you.. im just an average guy. not a shop owner with all the tools to fab things up...
and i was thinking of either welding the little bracket i made onto to hood itself and then making another bracket for the inner part of the bay so i dont have to take off the whole shock to remove my fender...
but so far... thanks for the comments......

Thanks. I wonder if it would be a bad idea to do this with a carbon Fiber hood? it would be pretty funny to launch things off my hood though. *mumbles* stupid squirrels

I cant believe people are still saying this
Anyway, nice DIY. You should retake your pictures and try to be a little more informative, so we can all take advantage of your hard work. Nice job man
