So today I installed a new transmission into my car (there were some bearing issues with one that I was going to be using... long story). All went well with the install and I took advantage of the warmer weather and decided to get the street tune started.
King Motorsports provided me with a VERY good basemap based on the specifications I gave them for my build. These guys are simply the best!!
After spending about 30mins getting the low speed and low load portions of the map sorted out I started working on the more interesting part of the maps.
In the end I managed to get a pretty decent start on the map with the A/F ratios looking pretty good. I'll have to do some fine adjustments but they are within 0.2 of my targets everywhere.
I'm going to have to work on the idle a bit more. The pro1 cams are not like other cams... while I managed a good idle in the garage over the winter, things changed a little when I hit the road. It wasn't terrible but it wasn't great either.
The engine saw many trips to 9000 RPM today and felt like it wanted to go much further. The A/F maps were telling me that the car wanted more and more fuel as the RPM was hitting the 9000RPM mark, a good indicator that the engine is still making good power up there.
What blew me away with this engine is how incredibly light it feels. It is not like anything I have ever driven. Rev matching is completely effortless. The engine spins up and down so quickly.
Frictional losses in the engine were also VERY small. When trying to engine break (to help seal the rings). I could barely feel any drag induced by the engine.
I headed back to the garage after about an hour and cracked open a beer and fell in love with my car again...
Tuning was done with Hondata S300 and PLX-R500 WB O2 sensor. The PLX has a headphone output which allowed me to listen to the knock sensor as I setup the maps. Much more accurate then simply listening for the marbles in a tin can.
After I spend some more time getting the maps dialed in a bit further I'll make a trip to a near by dyno and see what we can do there...
Thanks for sharing in my moment!

what kind of number is she making??

Haven't made the trip to the dyno yet... I'm going to get the street tuning polished up first. I'm using some very good base maps from King and have all the tools to make sure the engine is running well on the road first.
