96 del sol clutch housing
a piece of construction metal tore a hole in the clutch housing. any way to weld it closed or need total replacement? what does the replacement entail? full engine pull? already replaced the gas tank as it blew a hole in it just looking for what lies ahead.
Are you talking about the sheet metal protector around the flywheel, or like a chunk of the aluminum transmission case? Either can be repaired, but having the case fixed will probably be more costly.
If it requires taking the transmission out to be fixed, you do not have to remove the engine.

It is a chunk of the transmission case. So replacing is probably a more costly solution than trying to repair? Do you know of a link that can show this step by step?
No, I don't. You will want to use a good shop manual, or a Haynes. Do you have a picture of the damage?
If you have any racing shops around, they should be able to weld aluminum. The blocks on funny cars are so expensive they get reused even after it throws several rods.
