HOW CAN YOU FIND OUT IF THE BLOCK IS LEGIT OR HOT IF IT'S A JDM BOTTOM END
DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW DO YOU KNOW IF THE BOTTOM END OF A JDM MOTOR IS LEGIT OR NOT.. IS THERE ANY WEBSITE THAT CAN LET YOU CHECK????
well this guy that is selling the motor is saying he misplaced the paper work for the motor so my question is it another way you can check out the serial number on the block to see if it's legit or not.. any websites or whatever.

well, seeing as how there is no way to track it to see if it's stolen, what does it matter? If you can't track it, then neither can anyone else. Right? So use it.

saved in sig, for posterity.
who cares that we might be supporting thieves? as long as we get our share of the spoils, we might save enough replace our own stuff when it's stolen.

I agree that we shouldn't support thieves BUT - half of the USED parts out there these days are all stolen.
If I know its hot I won't buy it but if I can't tell then I will. What I don't know don't hurt me.

Nice attitude.
And just for the benefit of anyone looking to buy a used B series swap:
If the motor was intended for north American consumption, your local PD can tell you if there is an "alarm" on the vin plate if the motor is 96 or newer.
On older USDM motors the digits below the block stamping (B18C1) can trace it back to the original vin of the car it was installed in from the factory.
JDM motors do not have vin plate holes, anyone that tries to sell you any b series motor with a defaced or removed vin plate as JDM is full of ****.
Your local PD's Auto Larceny desk will be able to tell you this in a simple phone call.

Try that out when you get pulled over and asked to show paperwork or the car is being impounded.
Wow again.

an excellent point, unfortunately the authorities won't take quite the carefree attitude to things
if there wasn't a way i could guarantee an engine was legitimate, i wouldn't buy it

Exactly what happened to my boy last week. He just got out of jail yesterday. He had a tranny with the vin plate missing and no paperwork to show and he was arrested!
On the other hand, I went with my friend to a local japanese importer and bought a type r tranny and some of them has holes for vin plates!!!

then again, what ever happened to 'presumed innocence'? the burden of proof (of wrongdoing) is on the police/prosecution. otherwise, they could stop you, seize all of your $, etc., and say that even with a pay stub, etc. you have no way of proving that it was for that particular $. while it's good to see cops stepping up to help us, it's bad when it's at the overall expense of our civil liberties.
