got a p/s leak from rack.... anyone experienced this?
alright i have been losing a little p/s fluid for a bit now and never could find the leak. turns out it has been dripping from the short hard line that screws into the top of the rack...... its the one on the drivers side right next to the rear mount.
anyone had similar issues? its a fitting like a brake line and is leaking from around the threads AND up through the center of the fitting like if a brake line would do if it were loose BUT its tight...... would you guess it to be a rack or the line that is the problem? its got me kinda stumped
thanks for any help i searched and didnt find anything i didnt know if this was a common DC problem

I have never heard of any power steering leaking from that part of the rack. It may be possible that there is a crack or something is crossthreaded. I would see if you can either tighten it down or take it loose and see if there is a crack or the threads are messed up. Just be careful and use a line wrench to break them loose.
yea i thought it was strange myself........ its never been apart so i know its not cross threaded and yea line wrenches of course

What is this "Line Wrench"? I was changing a master cylinder on a Maxima, and I noticed that the directions called for a Line Wrench.
Anyone?

checked again to make sure it was tight and it still is but the leak is gradually getting worse i guess i will just replace the line and see what happens..... this is really annoying
and to ^^ its not a banjo fitting there is no washers...... its a fitting that is exactly like the hard brake lines have on the master cylinder and where they connect to the rubber lines its leaking from around the threads and up through the center where the hard line goes into it

for reference i stole the diagram from buranco's site
its leaking from #19 right where is goes into the top of the rack.... and again YES its tight thats why i dont understand why its leaking it doesnt have o-rings, crush washers, etc..... its strictly a pressure fitting

yea the line is not expesive i think i will just go ahead and do that for good measure and i dont see teflon tape helping too much as it is also leaking up through the center of the fitting
sorry didn't quite understand which line your having trouble with. i say fitting itself is a good choice. let us know
the ficshe i put up a few posts...... line #19 right where it goes into the top of the rack... you can see where the bulk is for it to screw into...... its leaking all out of there around the fitting and up through the center around the hard line
i ordered the line earlier this week should be here today or tomorrow... hopefully it fixes it i just dont see how the line just starts leaking right there unless its cracked somehow
