You can just pull the head off the motor with the intake still on it. It makes it easier to pull the motor but it really doesn't matter. just make sure that when you do get the head off that you bring the head to get resurfaced to ensure a straight edge and good seal when mated with the block.
There is no reason to pull the motor to remove the head. It is only easier if the engine is already out, but if it is still installed, it is much less labor to pull the head and intake as one unit and leaving the engine installed.
Like I say on so many threads, buy a $20 haynes manual which has step by step instructions and gives you proper torque specs. Tell your Honda lovin cousin that he is mistaken on this one. Oh, and don't forget the two bolts underneath that attach your intake manifold to the block.
Its kinda like saying its easier to replace your timing belt with the engine pulled. Well, sure it is, but it will take way too much labor to pull it than not to if it is already in the car. Like it would be easier to vacuum the carpet with all the seats pulled out, but who does that.

well i took the head off and found the problem. it was the head gasket. out of the three layers on the gasket the middle one, a piece was missing. so that has to be the problem. and ill be fixing it soon.
