Piston Ring Packaging
Has anyone on here (DonF, Brad, Larry@ENDYN) experimented with different ring placements on a Honda piston? NOT speaking about moving the oil ring up and bunching the rings together to run a longer rod, im wondering if anyone in here has experimented with just how far up you can place the top compression ring below the deck height before you run into problems with the ringlands...
On normally-aspirated applications, I run the top ring as high as possible without breaking through into the corners of the intake valve relief's. This helps eliminate crevice-space between the top ring and the timing edge of the piston.
On nitrous and turbo applications, the top land needs to be thicker, so the ring has to go furrther down.

Not a street motor. Something you could get 20-30 passes out of at the race track.

More heat transfered to the ring in a smaller bore setup?

On a 10 min. motor (drag) I would raise the top ring as far as possible, without losing valve notch integrity. Lose the second ring, use the XA oil ring, raise the pin, but not to the oil groove, shortest slipper skirt, and lightest weight. Probably a .708 pin and custom rod.

I woudl call John Sally at FSN Piston Company and ask for the "The Best Damn Piston".
Or call CP Pistons and tell them you want a piston for 20-30 passes and they'll come up with the rest.

Yeah, red-blooded american head porters need to unionize and save one of the last great "American" jobs that effectively pay about $11/hr now taken away be 5-axis robots and cheap foreign labor. We need to start H O G (Headporter Organization Group) to preserve the strength of America.
