Brake Pads which side

alright my brand new ebc brake pads just came in. i opened the box up to check them out and i think they messed up

the long metal part sticking up is only on one of them? WTF does it even matter if so which side should i put it on?

The metal tab is the indicator for when the pads get low. You should have gotten two pads with tabs. When installing the pads with the tabs in the piston side of the caliper and the tab on the leading edge of the rotor because the leading egde wears faster then the following edge.

The tabs go on the piston side. They would stick out and interfere with the wheel otherwise.

arent the tabs to see if they need replacing? and if i put them on anyway will it make a diffrence? i just dont want to send them back and wait for a refund

What everyone is saying is that the tab is just a sensor for when the brakes get low. Makes that cool squeeking sound that everyone loves. But it <U>does not</U> affect the performance of the pads. You will stop fine with or without that sensor.
It's just that without the tab, you'll have to monitor the condition of your brakes alittle more closely...which you should be doing anyways if you do any form of racing or spirited driving.
