how do u check trainy fluid
The main fill bolt should have tranny fluid just up to the bottom of the fill hole threads. When you look at the transmission from the passenger side you will see 2 bolts on the transmission housing. One has a raised square nut(drain plug, don't remove unless changing fluid) and the other has a recessed 3/8" socket bolt(fill plug, this is where you check the level).
If you can't see the tranny fluid at the bottom of the fill hole then you are low and you need to fill. When you are filling the tranny with fluid you need to pay attention to when the fluid starts to seep out. I use a funnel with a plastic hose attached that I place into the fill hole thats long enough to hold outside the wheel well when I am filling. Be careful and clean the CV boot of any fluid that leaks out as the transmission oil will cause the boot to deteriorate. Use a light cleaner like Simple Green to clean off the boot and tranny housing of any oil. When you re-tighten the fill bolt check the torque, I don't recall what its suppose to be.

You sure? All the fill bolts i've ever seen are the 17mm bolts that are above the axle. The recessed 3/8 is at the bottom of the trans and it is the drain. Thats the only way i've ever seen it. Maybe your bolts are switched around?

A picture is worth a 1000 words: OK 3 pics.

The last pic shows the big honker bolt to the left of the axle, that's your fill bolt. Don't mind the oil leak being pointed out, it was from someone's old thread that I saved.
If you look in the 2nd pic, that big recessed bolt just over the drain bolt, that's the one that many people mistakenly think is the fill bolt.
