Default B20/VTEC head gasket trouble:

Building a B20B block / B18C1 head combination and wanted to be sure what HG to use. I called Race Engineering (Cometic dealer) and the guy I spoke with said I need to match the gasket to the HEAD (GSR), but everything else I've seen says I should be running a gasket to match the BLOCK. Help me out here!

Just to add to this - I'm looking at Race Engineering's list of HGs right now and they DO have a "B18C / B16A" 84mm head gasket but they do not appear to have a B20 head gasket anywhere. I know the dowel pins won't line up on a VTEC head gasket so what should I do?

you can just use a stock honda crv headgasket, it'll be fine but if you had the block bore/hone to 84.5mm, you can just use a 85mm cometic headgasket

head gasket always has to match the block, not the head

match the head gasket to the block.(period) but use the gsr head bolts with gsr torque specs

What about a 84mm hg with an 84.5 bore?

Yeah I was a little scared when the Race Engineering guy was pointing me in the wrong way, but it looks like Cometic has already addressed CRVtec engines and they're selling a HG specifically for such a conversion.

if u bore your b20 to 85mm, then yes u gave to get the cometic 85mm b20 hg. Now if you have 84.5 mm pistons, than u can use stock hg, becasue the stock hg when crushed actually opens to 84.5mm. I highly doubt that stock hg come 1mm over.
