Heard that it is more difficult to do mods with the drive by wire system in the newer s2k's, anyone have any experience with this and should I really look at getting a used s2k rather than a brand new one because of this?
Its all personal choice.
I personally dont like DBW, but it wouldnt bother me that much.
06 is the first year they started that in the s2000 also.

What type of mods are you hearing that are giving folks trouble?
It took me a long time to get used to the DBW in my Fit, and I still don't like it.

DBW isnt extremely different from the traditional cable. it had to be incorporated for the VSA and all the new emissions crap. for modding, yes, its not as easy as say an older ap2 or ap1. there are a couple on s2ki that have boosted an 06 and have had great results. as for minor bolt ons, i wouldnt see a problem in this. comptech just produced a supercharger for the 06/07's, but now that they are going into the ground, this means nothing.

Well, my question to you would be why would DBW be a benefit for that? Youre just stomping the gas after launching. 100% is 100% whether its VIA cable or electronic.
I hate DBW. I've driven 350zs, bimmers, and vws. I hated it on all of those cars. It feels so indirect and the delay makes heel/toeing irritating (for me). Induction side mods are going to be harder to come by, i would assume.

i believe those are good/professional drivers... maybe somebody here who tracks their car as a hobby can drive the car better than somebody who actually gets paid to test drive vehicles?

that site is a crock of ****. did you see the difference between the 03 and ap2's, thats just stupid. they are almost the same car in the quarter mile, its a drivers race.

"Pro" drivers doing 14s? I know a handful of people here, including myself, who've cracked into the 13s.

i'm not certain where those test took place... but there are alot of variables behind 1/4 mile runs besides the drivers like elements, elevation, etc...
i'm pretty certain those #'s came about from the same driver and location.
if i had the power, i'd let you track all the cars on that list.

do you mean worst stripe in the socal?
yeah, i can vouch, if you can do 13's in LACR you can do much better 2300 ft lower at sea level

I own a '07 and i love the DBW system. I don't experience any of the delays you mention and in fact the throttle response is more responsive than conventional wire system. As for mods, you won't have a problem if all you're planning is purchasing an intake or overboring you're TB. If you're going with supercharger or ITB's then thats when you might run into problems.

Faster than a cable? How though? Even if you take into account the stretch in a cable (measured maybe in nanometers) when you hit the gas, the reaction time is virtually zero.
With DBW, you route what your foot says into a computer, and then to an actuator to apply the throttle...I mean i know electricity travels at near the speed of light, but i just dont see how it could be faster.
I guess i'll have to drive one.

Theoretically, DBW is more responsive than throttle cable. If I’m correct, same driver, location, weather variables, etc… ap2 vs. ap1 ¼ mile run; an ap2 should be always quicker even with the CDV. I may be wrong though.
