D16Z6 motor swap...engine won't rev past 3250rpm
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My buddy recently swapped a D16Z6 in his 91 cx civic, and we're havin a ton of trouble gettin it to run right...here goes...
Anyone done this swap before???
When the car hits 3250 rpm, the fuel cuts out, and the car just sputters and will not rev any higher...
The car starts up and idles fine, which would lead us to believe timing is fine right? We have tried new 4th and 5th gen distributors, has new cap, rotor and wires, 3 si different computers, and the wiring has been done 3 times, twice by a shop in Barrie, so there can;t be anything wrong with the wiring?
we are running out of time and ideas, can anyone please help?????????????

sounds like it could be either your injectors or fuel pump giving out? but im no expert my friend had the same problem and all he did was put some injecter cleaner and it ran even worse for about a "tank of gas" and then he did it again and it ran like it should!!
It has to be some kinda electrical prob tho i would almost think.
They hooked up a light to the fuel rail to measure pressure, and it drops right at 3250rpm, almost like there's some kinda of rev limiter....
4th gen PGMFI is being used with 5th gen injectors, but that shouldn't matter right?
also, computer is 4th gen, but all the books use that in their instructions.

Well it could be a lot of things......I just recently completed this swap and also converted to obd1
#1 What ECU is he running? The injectors he runs depends on which ecu he is using
#2 (VERY IMPORTANT) Were the two signal wires on the TPS reversed? Remember, a dpfi throttle body opens in a different direction than the mpfi throttle bodies.......my bet is that this is the problem
#3 What distributor is he running? Again, this goes back to point #1, it all depends on what electronics he's running in the car. YOU CAN'T USE THE 5th GEN DISTRIBUTOR WITH THE 88-91 SI ECU
we need a little more info here........have him (or you) email me at
lelopez@eng.usf.edu.......maybe I can help out...

this is what happens when you read and write at the same time....
ok, so you're using the 4th gen computer with 5th gen injectors.....BIG NO NO....
88-91 injectors are peak and hold......92-95 are saturated.......and the 4th gen ecu is rigged for peak and hold........
swap injectors and use the 4th gen ones...
again, make sure you have those TPS wires reversed or what you describe will happen regardless.......
email me if you need more help...

don't use 5g injectors, and use the 4g distributor. The 5g injectors are different, I think the 5g's are saturated and the 4g's are peak and hold. The revs will cut out using the 5g distrib with PM6 or OBD-0 ECU's. You probably are getting the crank angle sensor code too. Any codes?
Sorry!
ya i shoulda mentioned that, it gives codes 4 and 8 i think, one is TDC and i forget what the other one is...i think crank sensor like u said
tonight i'll tell him what u said, and change the injectors and distributor, and also check the TPS wires.
Thanks so far, i'll let u know what happens
