oil pump crank seal?
how easy is it to replace the gsr oil pump crank seal...or can it even be done...when rebuilding my motor it ripped...the pump only has bout 50k on it so i don't want to have to get a new one...
I definitly would worry about the expence of a $4.00 seal on a rebuild. Could put you over budget. I will send you a goog used one for free, if you want to pay shippng and handling $15.00.
Stupid question, doesn't everyone replace the front- rear seal, and pan-head gasket on a rebuild? Matbe i am missing something.

hi, the seal is really easy to replace.
you absolutely need to remove the timing belt and timing belt sproket to access this seal. will take approx 5 mins to replace.
i suggest (if you think you are capable), to open up your oil pump(since you are doing a complete rebuild) and insert a .050 inch shim in back of your oil pressure regulating spring... this allows the oil pressure to raise to approximately 90 psi with engine cold and it keeps a pressure of approximately 55 psi when hot even at idle.
i always put this shim in all my honda/acura rebuilds because even a bran new oil pump is not able to keep a very strong oil pressure at idle and low rpm.
many people dont know about putting a shim there and it works fine even if you dont but i always put it to guarantee myself that my engines will never miss out on oil pressure....
hope this helps

really?
really?
Yes could you please explain or show pictures of this being done. This may be a reason for all these code 22 vtec pressure switch codes. If they don't see enough pressure because of this?

so i assum all it takes is just a little pounding then its out huh...i forgot that the seal is called the main seal...so didn't know what to search for...but i'm good now...i'll take a wack at it this weekend...i'm going to do the rear seal too...thanks folks...
the oil pump has some sealent behind it and that is why it is hard to pull off. pry it gently all around and it will come off.
if you are not going to add the shim i talked about, you do not need to remove the pump assemble to change the seal.
just pry the old one out and reinstall the new one

you have an oil pressure sensor that allows oil into your rocker shafts for VTEC. if there is not enough oil getting to the VTEC solenoid that could cause it. but you would have to figure out why there isnt oil getting to the head.
you also have an oil pressure switch on the back of the block, but im not 100% sure what it tells you other than that you have low oil pressure.

you should be able to get it out on you own, but you might want to have a shop press in the new seals. i cant figure out any good way to do it myself without a press of some sort. so if anyone can give some advice on that too
