I bought a new car, but not a Honda
After looking around for about a month I finally purchased another car. Unfortunately, it is not a Type R, but instead is a 97 Eclipse GSX.
I had almost purchased a Black Type R, the price was excellent, but it was to much of an issue getting a loan for a personal seller and also dealing with the title issues since the car was still with another bank.
The Eclipse is in excellent condition and only has 41K miles, while almost 42K since I had to pick it up in NJ.
Now the question is what are some of the best sites for Eclipse Modifications. I found http://www.extrememotorsports.com/ If anyone knows of any others I would appreciate a point in the right direction. Also, for those that have experience, what are the best first modifications.
So people don't feel the need to bash Mistu's for realiability I will mention that I previously owned a 95 GS-T that I racked up 186K miles on with no issues beyond the normal wear and tear and I definitely did not treat the car as well as my Type R). It is also still on the road since I traded to my buddy for a Playstation 2 (what can I say, he needed a car and I didn't).
I still plan on hanging out on this board since everyone is always very helpful and funny at the sametime.

Im thinking about getting one of these suckers as well, although one that is a few years older than yours.

Good luck. Hope you don't crankwalk.
My brother's 97 did. Walked half an inch.

Yup, my friend's 98 GS-T crankwalked whortly after he got it, less than a year ago. Also, a lady where my parents used to work had an Eclipse and the timing belt snapped at 54K and totalled the car. I can't remember what year her car was, but I think the interval was 50K miles on those. Better check to see what the interval for yours is.
Awesome car man, congratulations!

So, is there a way to prevent crank walk? I have never hearnd of this happening personally, but would like to avoid if possible.
Article on crankwalk. If you are a mechanical retard like myself, most of this wont mean ***** to you, but its info anyway.

I can say from my own (96 GSX) experience........
Don't do 4 wheels burn-out from stand still, the center LSD is NOT that strong as many people think, especially after some mods (like turn up the boost).

http://www.dsmtalk.com was my favorite dsm forum.
My 97 Tsi went 100K without a hiccup. I sold it because I wanted something that handled better. Here's a pic. I miss the TQ but not the handling.

goodluck. oh yeah,
for the wing.(but thats 3 years ago)

Thanks for posting the articles, but that got way over my head and it looks like there are at least three possible reasons and nobody is really sure why.
Damn, my head is still spinning from trying to read all that. Time to check out a few more sites.

The first article made perfect sense. I didn't read the second. If you are running the second gen block, the oil squirters which have a check valve sometimes get wedged open. This in turn leads to a loss of oil pressure at idle to the main and rod bearings.
So they switch the oil squirtes in 2nd gen motors to 1st gen style which doesn't feed off of the main and rod bearing oil passageways. This will guarentee that you wont get oil loss at idle.
Cliff notes for the mechanically challenged.
