jdm h22 swap
Ok this is the problem, my friend is doing a swap on somebodys else car, its a 98 prelude and he is putting a h22 jdm engine in it and he told me that after pulling the engine out he noticed that the jdm engine does not have a crank sensor on the lower part close to the timing belt, I think they send an obd 1 engine instead of a obd 2 he also told me that the ecu came with a jumper harness so he doesn't know what to do, the jdm engine has a sticker showing that its a 98 jdm but who knows for sure, if any body knows what to do about this sensor please help. Thanks guys.
the crank sensor is in the distributor on OBDI motors. If its not on the oil pump, then you have an obdI motor which takes a little modification in order to properly run it in a 5th gen.
you have to convert it externally to OBDII. which means you have to swap to an OBDII oil pump, OBDII distributor, intake manifold, exhaust manifold, ac, ps, alternator and brackets, oil pan, lower timing cover, intermediate shaft.
my Type S swap was an ODBII with an internal coil (and internal crank position sensor at the distributor). I believe it was just a matter of running the wire from the distributor over to the existing harness.
EDIT: Running the wire from the distributor to the harness meant using the JDM ECU, which also means you wont pass emissions if they plug you into the scanner port btw.
To pass emissions, you have to change oil pump, crank position sensor etc. so that you can run the USDM ECU.

Wanted the more agressive fuel/timing map with the JDM ECU.

That isnt ghetto. its called wiring.
I guess wiring vtec in a non-vtec car is ghetto too.
So you are saying instead of just running the wire to the right place he should replace an oil pump.
you can run an obd2 or 1 car with either sensor. one in the dizzy or one in the oil pump. As long as you have one of the sensors its fine. make sure the sensor is connected in some way to the ecu.
