Default Advice on getting a good deal

The wife and I decided we are going to keep the LX sedan, and I was going to get an SI in addition to it. Today I went down to the dealership to buy a used Si they had on the lot, which they had dramatically reduced the price down to $18,300.

As fate would have it.. after sitting there for several months, the car sold last saturday. I looked at the rest of the SI's on the lot and they are all 4 doors, which I'm not sure I'm a fan of yet. That and they are all priced at $23,950. They're telling me the cheapest they can go is $23,000. Even after walking out they refused to budge on the price.

What are some good tips for getting the car for a good price? I plan on buying the car outright, no financing. I live in minnesota, in the rochester area if anyone has bought one here. I went up to the cities and I was quoated at high 22's as well, and the only other dealer near me is the same as the one closest to me. I really would like to get it for ~$500 over invoice.. not three thousand or whatnot. How difficult will this be?

Thanks for any tips

Finding a noobie/more desperate salesperson may help. The sales manager obviously wont let them go too low but if they are willing to take a cut in their commission just to get a car sold you may end up walking out with a pretty good deal. Just dont let them **** around with you, you've got the money so you should be in charge.. offer way low then work it back up to a more realistic level and draw the line there.

If you are willing to drive you can find them for $20-21k pretty easy, nav a little more.

Check out the sedans, I really like the roomyness of them and it's only 59lbs heavier.

try to find out what the profit they make is... i bought a 07 si last wendsday and it was stickered at 22,655, they had 1500 strait profit in the car and you need to take a cut out of that number i got my car for 21,300 which is quite a bit lower than the sticker....those ******** make alot more that 1500 on that car and i think if you work them around on their profit numbers you should do well...i asked the sales manager if the price was negotiable and he said ""is the price negotiable no, but can it be yes"" slimeballs

Thanks for the advice. Sedans.. no I'm not a fan of them. I drive one now and I think it's far, far worse looking than the coupe. I just.. HATE the back end of it. The lights just kind of **** me off, whereas I think the coupe looks great. I figure if I'm gonna be buying a new car, might as well do it right from the beginning this time, so it won't be like the first civic where I'm disliking my car more and more everyday after the first two weeks.

was that $23,950 OTD? go to the dealership on the 31st; this gives you quite a bit of leverage. they have to meet a quota every month, and if there's an FG2 on the lot, they'll be a lot more pinched to sell the car to you.

of course, depending on how popular Si's are in your area, you may or may not be able to get the car at the price you want. they for sure wont charge you over MSRP though unless theyre gambling and theyre confident demand is strong enough to sell it at their set price; it's not worth the inventory cost of not selling it to you before the month's end in hopes of selling it overpriced to a foolish customer the next month.

Ahh thanks for the tip, I didn't know there were monthly quotas. SI's dont' sell too well around here. SI's haven't been too popular around here, they seem to sit for a while. Right now there are several SI's at one dealership.

And no, the 23,950 is before taxes. Keep in mind, that's also a base SI. No navi, wheels, rims, HFP kit, etc etc. They had a 2 dr A/t EX in the showroom a while ago with Rims and the AERO kit at nearly 30 thousand. Just goes to show the markup around here..

Yep.. that's what I was trying to do. I hate buying new because the price is so much higher, and then instantly falls down several thousand. Just kind of annoys me that the only used SI around here that I know of (for sale at a dealer) was sold after sitting for several months.. RIGHT on the weekend before I planned on dropping off a check to hold it while I figured some stuff out.
