Type sh flywheel/clutch questions
I have a 99 sh and need to replace the clutch yes i know its going to be alot but i was thinking about doing it myself. Ive read up on the ATTS unit being in the way and takes awhile (10 hr job) to get off but not difficult ? true and if so should i just pay to have it dont or do it myself.
Another thing is that i was thinking about changing the flywheel most say fidanza but i heard that chromoly steel is better than the alumminum. Can iget a lighten flywheel on my sh or will it affect my ATTS unit. if i can i was thinking a 12 pound ?

Getting the ATTS unit out is easy compared to removing the transmission, so I wouldn't let the ATTS keep you from doing it yourself. That said, the whole job is a decent amount of work but with a helm's manual, some good tools, time, and determination you should be able to crank through it.
Different flywheel shouldn't affect your ATTS.

I have a type-sh and i have changed the clutch by just removing the ATTS and tranny and i have done it by removing the entire motor, and i must say taking out the motor is 10 times easier for me at least. But then again i have a garage and a engine lift. If you have a helms manual you cant go wrong as long as you follow each and every step. Im running an ACT clutch with a fidanza and i couldnt love it more.
The hardest part of the whole job will be the removal and installation of the trasmission, it will be easier if you a few buddys to help you as you will have to manuver the tranny for it to fit. The helms does not suggest this but removing the front cross member will give you much needed room to work with also.
Also becareful when putting the tranny back on not to break any of the cooland sensors located on the head, also change out your rear main seal while your down there.

Well when i first did the clutch i was by myself and i used an engine lift to lift the tranny from above while i rocked it in from the bottom. By my self it took me a good weekend but i was set back alot because i didnt have the proper tools at the time and there were several issues that set me back a while.
With you and some buddies you should be able to do it on a weekend, you dont need an lift, just jack up the front of the car as high as you can with a decent jack and you should have clearance to be able to remove the tranny.
