I Need Advice. Installed a New Header on my DOHC ZC. Hangs Way Too Low...AC Fan Won't Fit.

Cliff's Notes:
1. Had a DC Header on my ZC. Had a very bad crack where the welds were made near the head.
2. Bought a D-series Edelbrock Header as a replacement. Box says 92-95 Honda Civic but I was told any D-series header would work fine.
3. Hangs too low - the part where the cat connects to it is hitting when I go over bumps.
4. AC Fan won't fit. Header runners extend outwards and then go down.
What can I do to remedy these problems? I wanna run AC but there's no way my fan is going to fit. Can the header be heated and angled so that it won't hang so low or does it have to be cut and rewelded?
Also my AC hose busted because of the heat from the header....so yeah, the problems just keep building up. I spent money to fix one problem and now I have more problems as a result of it all.

Well, another question I have is do I need 2 fans? I know the AC fan is for the AC but will it work just fine without it? Or is it absolutely necessary?
Curious myself being that I have a Edelbrock Header and will soon be installing my Dohc ZC. With my A6 however it works alright minus the A/C fan removal and a slight notch in my crossmember for clearance.
Perhaps a slim fan?

iv got an oem dohc zc exhaust manifold on my d15b2 at the moment. its basically a header 4-2-1. my car isnt lowered and i hit it with speed bumps if i go to fast.. so i dont know if you can help this out at all.. unless you cut it and weld it again.
i removed my ac fan .. im not really sure if my other fan is working properly now because i overheated last month.. but a few weeks ago i could hear it was on. but iv heard if you remove the ac fan it doesnt complete a circuit so im not sure.

I just bought that exact header and have it installed with my DOHC ZC....but I also ripped out all the AC stuff. It fits fine and clears my JimFab crossmember. It hangs a bit low, but I haven't found that it's rediculously low.
Here is a top view (I'll try to remember to get a front view tonight):

Well, they did have to cut they lip off of the OEM crossmember for the header to fit without problems.
I'll take pics of the cars belly tomorrow in the morning and show you guys what I mean.
Right now my car is sitting on Eibach Sportlines with KYB's.
It's not slammed, but not super high either.

I bought them same header from summit also. Its a great deal but I was thinking about sending it back. Seems like a lot of work to make it fit. I want to keep my A/C also. Post some pics JesseCRX.

Well, I am thinking it's going to take some extra work in the form of:
1. Getting a 92-95 Civic Radiator(dirt cheap on ebay).
2. Getting a slim fan for the AC Condensor(60 bux from a HT vendor)
As for it hanging too low, it may just be the flange from the cat converter....not sure.
I'll get the pics later today when I park the car on level pavement.

i don't have any a/c parts in my car at all. if u got windows i think ull be allright. well unless ur in the desert. and another + is that without the a/c lines it makes it much easier to work on ur car

I am in Houston TX(aka the devils *******). It gets hot AND humid as expletive down here. AC is a must.
Here are the pics I took before and I after I had some modification done.
Top down view of AC lines touching header(No AC Fan)

Here are some underbelly shots of the header flange/cat converter

And here are some shots after I had the lower heat shield cut and the header heated and slightly bent upward. I was pretty pissed that this had to be done but it was either this or risk seriously ******* some **** up.
It still sits too low for my tastes.

I actually am in the process of re-installing A/C on my 90 with a DOHC ZC. I am going to have to use the stock header so that it 1) works with the stock A/C fan (don't really feel like speding money on a slim fan), 2) Allows the compressor to fit comfortably and 3) gives the lines more room.
Depends on what you'd rather have: an aftermarket header that adds a few HP or ice cold air in the dog days of summer. For me A/C >>>>>>> a few measly HP, especially on a DD.

Jessecrx,
Thanks for the pics! Hangs pretty low & sucks that it touches the A/C lines. I need my A/C here in Cali. You could probably squeeze a slim fan in there though! I think I am going to return the header. Thanks for the heads up!

i had a 4 to one dc on my b in my crx and it hung down like that. I think its because it was the GSR one and my b16 has a shorter block. it took me a week to smash it bad enough to restrict flow. i cut a slot in it and bent it back into a tube and welded it shut. then fabricated a 1/4 inch slider plate for it. eventually i just took it off and put a 4 to 2 to one on instead.

Well, the header swap had to be done because the DC header was breaking into pieces due to age and wear.
This is only temporary.
Got a B-series ready to drop in with a hasport ac bracket

OMFG...now it's overheating!
I tried driving to work and the temp guage started to rise.
All I did was reset my ecu. I know for a fact my fan is kicking on because I watched it yesterday.
My head hurts. I just want someone to hold me, and tell me everything gonna be alright

have you thought of cut and rewelding? Cut it yourself and have someone weld it. That would solve your ground clearance issue. i dont know about the ac line issue though just cut a .5-1inch off of the down section. You be able to find plent of tig welders in houston

Thought about it, but wouldn't that throw off the flow of the header?
It would have to be cut in 2 places. All 4 runners would have to be cut and shortened. Just look at the old DC CRX 4-1 header. See how the runners almost immediately run downward instead of straight out and then down like the Edelbrock. Then I would have to cut it somewhere on the downpipe to shorten the height so it doesn't hang so low.

JG Edelbrock 4-2-1 Header for 92-95 Civic

If it won't damage the purpose of the header that much then yeah I can probably do it. I already have it off the car. But if it will then I may just be better off putting back on my old DC 4-1.....which was cut in half by the muffler shop without my knowledge and then rewelded back together
I also noticed that the DC header has some sort of a bracket near the o2 sensor. The Edelbrock one doesn't have this. Is it necessary? What goes there?
