Default help: need new cat

Well there has been an obvious hole in my cat but untill just recently i though it was just from a suport falling off from bottoming out, but recently it started spewing out exhaust fumes, i just passed inspection so i have plently of time to replace it

i tried doing research and its all like reading spanish to me...

so what is a good cat to choose from? i dont want to spend too much money.

what the differeance between high flow cats and regular ones?
Are they easy to replace on my own? maybe i can get a better higher priced one and install it on my own if i dont have to pay instillation fee

91 honda crx with an sohc zc, with complete exhaust system put on by previous owner, i beleave its 2" by just eye judgement.

I have the same car and motor and setup as you do, other than I have 2.5 pipe.
I got the magnaflow high flow cat.
The difference is the placement of the cookies inside the case and the size of the case itself. The diameter of mine is almost half azs big as the stock one. So the air will flow through better instead of circulating around inside causing backpressure because of the big case.

Sorry for the ghettoness but here ya go for an illustration:

I don't know how the people telling you they felt a difference came up with that, unless they had a seriously clogged up cat, but my gas mileage sure improved, and its a little peppier in the top end. A little.

If you have the original one on there, I recommend you taking it to your local muffler shop. The original cat is welded on there, your gonna need a torch or saw to cut that bitch off. If you bring the catalytic converter to the muffler shop, it should run about $25 for labor.

Ummmmmm.... no? Maybe yours was screwy, but they're just bolted to the exhaust from the factory.

OP, I personally run a Magnaflow HF cat on my DOHC ZC and passed emissions two years ago. Not sure if PA laws are different than WI though.

look on summit or something for a high flow that is 50 states legal grab a weld on one and drive out to my place i will cut the flanges off your old cat weld them on the new one and you'll be ready to go

Atleast when i had my friend inspect and do emissions on my car we only get a gas cap emissions test and a visual inspection of the exhaust system
