JDM 4-1 on the way... couple of install questions?
First off, thanks, Brian for sending it out so quickly.
I'm getting the JDM with the upper heat shield and a donut gasket. I want to hook this up to my stock system so I know I need a high flow cat but I'm not sure on any other pieces.
I just need 1 more flange that connects from the cat -> stock b pipe right? Who should I call to complete my system? SMSP? Thanks!

All you need is the high flow cat and the 3-bolt gasket. You don't need any flanges if you buy a cat from SMSP.

you don't need a flange, it should bolt up to your sock b-pipe. i am also kinda wondering what else i need..
Dave(SMSP) said, "cat bolts are 8mmx90mm and the B pipe flange are 10mm x40mm"

My DC JDM tore my stock header bracket right in half. Made some nasty rattling sounds too, took forever to actually figure out what was causing it. The JDM header bracket is definitely worth the $20 for the extra strength and protection I'd say.
EDIT: Price changed, whoops.

Replaces the bracket that connects the header to the chassis. The USDM bracket is flimsy.

What is the JDM header bracket and what does it do?
After the bracket install It solved 95% of that problem(still some hop from the Azenis on HARD launches but thats expected).
And also install it at the same time as the header other wise you have to un-bolt the exhaust and try to push the header foward to try and fit the bracket in. Just a big PITA.
Overall just spend some extra money its worth it
why is there real hop w/out the bracket? or is this a stupid question..
It's like the bracket works as an engine mount?
I don't have a header mount for mine as my header does not have a bracket to bolt onto. But I was thinking about getting some plumbing ties and bolting that onto the stock header mount location.
Edit:: Re-read my post and I do sound like a dumb-***...All I know is the 1-2 shift is much smoother after the bracket

When I did not have the bracket there was nothing really solid connecting the exhaust to the car. So when I would really get on it the egnige would rock foward and back much more so then when the header was connected to the chassis. I guess you could say that it acts as another engine mount becuase the header is directly connected to the engine. A few people here have broken the bracket(and this is a VERY sturdy peice) and that alone was what got me to buy one. With the bracket connected and all bolted up the engine still moved enough to break the bracket so just picture how much more it would more if it was not supported at all. Also if it comes stock on our cars it is odviously there for a reason and for he it was a huge help.
For me at least:
Engine Movement=Wheel Hop
Wheel Hop=
HTH

. The exhaust has absolutly nothing to do with the location of the lower ball joint (and hence kingping axis) in relative terms to the chasis during a launch situation.do not listen to this we-todd.

I don't see how it could act like an engine mount. The header will be only fixed to the engine and not to the chassis. At the flange the header is connected to the Cat/testpipe and exhaust and these are hanging on rubbers...
I wasn't talking about launching sorry for the miss unerstanding. I was talking about the 1-2 shift.
Well if im so wrong can you please explain to me why I was getting hop on the 1-2 shift before the bracket and now after I have none?

Maybe it's an GSR flaw. ITR headers don't belong in an GSR.

Yea I just work up and someone up top said it bolted to the chassis and thats were I got my ricers reasoning from
But now that D has flamed I realized wtf am I talkign about because the braket attaches to the header to the engine not the chassis.

for having too many
"s last nightBut if someone could try to explain why it helped smooth out the shifts it would help

Your new cat will hook up directly with your stock b-pipe. If you get your cat from Dave at SMSP he includes all new hardware for installation. IM me if you need anything
you need a piece of pipe flared to 2.5 use the exhaust donut to size it up any exhaust shop has the tool to do it
