my gf has a 05 Acura MDX and she doesn't know how to turn on/off her AWD on her car.. we live apart in different city so i can't be there to help her..
can someone plz post the instruction so i can guide her through it..

I don't understand? is it stuck in the low 4wd? she can only do that if its the lower driver gears. I believe D2 and lower. to get out put it in D4 and push the button.

The 05 MDX is not full time AWD. to put it in 4WD do the reverse of above

i just double checked with her.. it's a 04 model but i am pretty sure it's the same as 05
so you are saying the AWD will only work and be turn on in lower gear (D2 and lower) then press the AWD button to engage, correct???

 

you can only lock the awd in 1, 2, and R. when driving in other gears the mdx will apply torque when the front wheels slip.

just to simplify this..
AWD will only work in 1, 2 and R
other gears it goes back to Front wheel say D3, 4 & 5
correct??

ALSO, when the AWD is engaged in lower gears, the AWD botton light will stay on like how cruise control works correct??

The AWD system is called VTM-4 in Honda-speak. It works similarly across all VTM-4 equipped Honda and Acura vehicles.

"AWD" is a special mode of locking the rear differential (via magnetic clutches) used ONLY for situations where you are stuck or have to tow a heavy item for a short distance (take boat out of lake, for instance). You could also use it in muddy terrain in conjunction with turning off the VSA system so the computer won't cut throttle response.

NEVER use the "AWD" mode on the street. You will overheat the rear differential clutches and will have an expensive repair bill. If I remember correctly, there is a rear differential overheat indicator on the dash that will light up if it gets too hot.

For everyday use, the computer detects front wheel spin and automatically engages the rear wheels to help traction.

I own an '03 and we have no traction issues with the default settings, even in heavy snow.

so basically, the AWD is always on but power transfer back and forth

the Button that press & indicates the AWD thing is for locking the rear differential and it can only be used with lower gears
