Default after the swap

i have a new engine i just fininshed swapping into my 91 crx dx. its a Y5 bottom end with a Y8 head... the car cranks really slow and doesnt have enough power to turn over, ive boosted the battery, and had it on the charger for about 8 hrs... and still slow cranking, i took the plugs out, and it cranks a little faster but not much. i tried to do a compression test but because it doesnt crank at full speed i cant get a reading.... could it be the starter? i know the starter works, but it is for a D15b could that make a difference? any other ideas? what could be the problem?

Thanks...

sounds like a starter problem here also. if its ur battery, it really wouldnt crank at all and since u charged it and it does. means its fine. alternator should take over after battery but since it didnt even start but i doubt it would be that.

check ur grounds and the connection from the starter to the battery and make sure theres that little wire that goes from the battery to the fuse box. make sure ur engine is grounded + ur chassis. i always make sure to have one ground from block to trottle to tranny then battery and another from battery to firewall. check the ground for the alternator also.

hope this helps bro. i just swapped in a d16 currently having issues also. g'luck

well i just boosted the battery again, and did a comp check, its got 130... but i was initially having problems with my dizzy, its from a d15b, and i repined the engine harness to match the plugs for it... and i checked for spark.... didnt get spark... so i have a 2 more dizzys around here that im gunna try to fabricate to fit, one is from a sohc Zc and the other is from a Si. but the problem is all the plugs on all the dizzys are different... any further ideas?

MYKE: i havent drivin, started, or heard my car run since late nov. early dec... its a bitch... but im loving the wrench time i get to put into her...

i have an Si dizzy with a 2 wire (round) connector and a 7 wire (round) connector, the engine wiring harness is from my D15b so it calls for a 5 wire (square) connector, now ive heard that i can just run the 5 wires that i need for the dizzy, and run the 2 extra blue wires right into the ECU into C1 & C2.... Can anyone confirm this? and which 5 wires would i use to match the dizzy to the harness?

Thanks...

aint life wonderful... <-- tell me about it

so i thot everything was fine and i was idling at liek 800. turn off the car pack up and went inside to sleep. woke up and went to work on her again. this time while its started. i noticed a leak near my alternator and main pulley. i think its the water pump seals... -_- this is frustrating...

seems liek after u get ur new harness. things will be all better! lol.

Hey man i can help you out. You don't have to send your harness out, this is a pretty easy fix.
First off, is your starter problem fixed or are you doing this Dizzy swap trying to fix your starter problem?
Next you have a y8/y5 mini me right? So have you converted your car to MPFI? You know our EFs are DPFI (except the Si and 4 door EX which are MPFI) and so to have a Mini me (I'm guessing you swapped to OBD1 right?) you need to swap to MPFI as well.
I can help with the Dizzy wiring, but I need to know if you're convertying to MPFI or have already or what the hell is going on.
let me know and I'll do what I can for ya. later

yes its a Y5/Y8 mini me, and i know for sure its obd1 and multi point is so you can run 4 injectors on a fuel rail correct? if that is true it is multipoint because i have a skunk2 itm that was on my d15 and an aem fuel rail, and 280 rc injectors... i've decifered that its not the starter its the dizzy, and i talked to peter from rywire today, and he told me that i had to send them the harnesses and buy a dizzy from a 92-95 sohc vtec civic... now i know that i can probably do this myself, but wouldnt it be a good idea just to send it to them so it can be done right?

IF YOU HAVE ANY MORE QUESTIONS FEEL FREE TO ASK, I WILL HELP AS MUCH AS I CAN, AND IF YOUR WILLING TO HELP ME I WOULD APPRECIATE IT....

THIS IS WHAT I WAS TOLD:

Your going to need a multipoint ECU, and dist, it has 2 round plugs, 1 with 2 wires, and 1 with 7 wires... Then match up the 5 wires that are currently in the square plug, run the extra 2 blue wires down to the ecu and tap them to c1 and c2, Search for MPFI Conversion for more info... Unless your incoherent rambling has led me to my own

THIS IS WHAT I WANNA KNOW:

C1 & C2 are split into a 4 socket plug.... they are split into B10(White wire with red stripe) & B12(Black)....

Question 1: Do B10 & B12 go into the 2 wire plug on the dizzy????, the dizzy has a Blk & Yellow and a Blue...

Question 2: Do the colors for the wires that i have to hook up from the dizzy match the wires on the wiring harness? or can someone tell me what colors i would use????

Question 3: Quote, originally posted by 4thgenhtch »
run the extra 2 blue wires down to the ecu and tap them to c1 and c2
which blue wire goes into C1 and which to C2...
