Roll cage builders question... CRX main hoop location?
I am looking into putting a cage in my crx but I was looking at the place mount the main hoop and it looks as if it is going to be really close to my head if I put it in the usual location (right behind seat on floor close to where it steps up). My question is can it be moved up ontop of where the floor steps up so it sits right next to the B pillar? Does anyone have any good pictures of a roll bar/roll cage in a crx. All I am finding during searches are mostly hatchbacks.
thanks in advance,
Jon

I think you are going to want to keep it on the lower level. If you are under 6'-2" then you should be able to keep the seat up a few slots from the farthest back position when track racing. Make sure you keep the hoop as close to the body as possible. To help get the smallest clearance, you can drill/cut holes in each of those 4 locations to allow the tubes to drop lower and allow a 360 degree weld on your tubres. Once you fit the hoop and front runners with the floor plates in (but not welded), tack the tubes, remove the plates and drop the cage down and finish running your weld.
Almost all of the nicely done CRX cages have the main hoop in the lower corner and allow enough safe head room. I remember there used to be a guy Ricky Gonzales on the improvedtouring.com forums that had a nicely done cage in his CRX. You may find someone else here that might have a link to his cage.

I just finished one up in a CRX. I put the main hoop on the upper level. I didnt like the fact that sitting on the lower level, it would have been like 6" forward of the b-pillar, and therefore right in the door opening. Id post pictures, but I dont have the pictures on this computer. I will post them later tonight probably.

Blueoval557- that would be awesome if you could post up some pics of the cage you just finished. I would be interested to see how it works having the base plates on the upper level.
Bigtom- thanks for the link you sent, That cage looks awesome.
