JDM Front End time...
Hey all..
Well, because of my "fender bender" I have decided to get the JDM front end... I am wondering the difference in cost between the one with HID's and the one without. Any input or advice on other goodies for the front end.

Get the one without the HID's because it would be cheaper if you bought the HID's from EBAY or private owners, such as me. Email me if you're intrested, I have a set of ballast, and bulbs.
I got my JDM front end the same way, through insurance.
just make sure you don't need any frame straitning (sp?) My total insruance check was $5500.00 and the grand total for the bill was $7500.00 after fixing my car and the conversion. I would suggest getting an aftermarket kit and OEM metal.

You can get a good hooked up price with HID's and OEM front for around $3500. Without HID's you're looking at around $2500.
The difference between the two JDM front ends is that they have different headlight housings. One is specially designed for HID's, and the other one is designed for halogens. The headlight housing for HIDs is called the 98 spec version. It has no horizontal bars in the plastic over the low beam projector and has black lining inside. This HID housing will provide superior illumination when compared to a retrofitted halogen housing. Most people on this forum who have tried both have said this.
So if you want the best HID illumination you can get, don't get the regular housings and retrofit them with a HID kit from Phillips etc. They just won't work as well. I'm in the process of converting my R and I was going to go for the regular kit because it was cheaper and then upgrade, but it wasn't worth it. To get a HID kit to retrofit the halogen housings will cost from $600-700 after shipping, taxes, different vendor prices, etc and will never be as good as a dedicated HID headlight housing. Its worth the big initial $$$ outlay IMO.
Now to get the good prices like I mentioned above try calling with some of "big name" distributers that post here on honda-tech. It may take a while to track down this pricing. Happy hunting!

OEM HID kit should also come with a different radiator support than the non-hid kit. Those that have the oem HID housings with the wrong radiator support will notice that the lower headlight bracket has nothing to attach to.
