Advanced Timing
Hey all,
I am wondering what all this talk about advancing your ignition timing is? I have heard of this a lot but never understood the kind of gains one might see from it. I have cam gears and have my timing advanced on those but I would like to know if I could gain noticeable throttle response or power from advancing the ignition timing? How much would it cost for a tech to do it with a timing gun? Is it worth it or does it not do much at all? Thanks for any info guys.

shouldnt cost very much, its only a matter of hooking up the timing light to #1 lead and loosening the distributor and moving it backwards/forwrads to get the required timing set, takes less than 5 minutes.

Wow, I didn't know it made that much of a difference. I've only got a CAI on my car, so I'd probably be on the low end of things. It's going into the shop for an oil change & valve adjustment (15K), so I may as well have it advanced.
