Cluster wiring/AF gauge problems
ok i have a 99 gsr. i just hooked up my autometer a/f gauge the other day. it was working fine. but then i just got my cluster in the mail yesterday, so i go to put it in, i wire it back up everything works. then smoke comes pouring out. the gauge power and ground were wired into the power and ground on my radio and the o2 was ran to the ecu. well all the wires to the gauge melted..so i immediatly unhookend them. now my radio doesnt work. i used my volt meter and im not getting any power to the wires. i checked the fuses they all seem to be fine..is my radio fried??? or would it be the wires?? help please quick
they didnt look blown. i didnt check them with the meter..but im going to get new fuses now..and switch them just in case. i checked both underdash and underhood they looked not blown
You have probably damage some wiring, test for power, [DC volts] on the stock radio harnesses yellow/red it is switched, hot when ign, switch in in acc. or run and the white/yellow it is constant power, hot at all times.
Check for power at the radio fuse in the under dash fuse box, hot when ign. switch is in acc. or run and the backup power fuse in the under hood fuse box, check your main fuses in the under hood fuse box.

Your going to have to pull the wire harness out of the car and fix all those dam wires in the harness. I just fixed one in a members car. What cluster were you trying to use that caused this. One thing I would check all the fuses in your car and make sure the right amp fuse is put in the right spot. The problem sounds like that you replace a burnt fuse before with a higher amp model then the one that was in it to start with. Thats why the fuse did not blow when it was overloaded.
ok i checked everything i replaced all fuses with correct sizes one of them under the hood was a 10 instead of 7.5 i changed that. i used a test light to check power..the back up radio fuse had power. but the radio fuse under dash and cig. lighter fuse had no power. thing is my cig. lighter still works b/c my phone charger works..but still no power.. Now do i pull the harness that goes to the radio's harness..and do i have to take the dash out. if someone could help me out through the steps of what i should do that would b great. i really dont wanna take it somewhere. and i was hooking up a air/fuel gauge (replaced dimmer switch with that.

why does everyone use the radio wiring for aftermarket stuff besides radios???? everyone tries to tag 2 or 3 different things onto a power wire that barely has enough current to run 1 accessory...nevertheless 2 or 3.
you said you're not getting power to the radio wiring right???
trace back to your fusebox and double check all your fuses for continuity with a meter....not by eye! if all your fuses (underdash and underhood) are A OK...then you might've very well melted the wiring and would need to run new wires for power and ground and everything else. just make sure you fuse as close to the power source as possible! not close to the accessory you are hooking up!
you might've very well cooked the radio. only one way to tell for sure...smell it.

If you do not have power at the radio fuse, [when ign. is on to acc. or run] the problem is not between the fuse box and radio, it is between the ign. switch and the fuse box, check the yellow wire in ign. switch harness, [plugged into fuse box] for power when ign. switch is in acc. and run.

Get that harness from your friend and fix it right. You do not know what other wire has been damage from the wires getting hot and melting. When I repaired the other members car there was 4 other wires that were really bad and needed replacing. You could just fix that problem but anothor could lie ahead later.
Or you could pull the damn harness out and fix the wires individually. I did it on my last car. Being that it was an EF Si, the harness was hard to find/expensive.
