Default tranny questions

I was wondering what you guys put in manual transmissions...some one told me they put oil in it to make the gears spin better? is that good to do?....also do you put tranny fluid in it and does it matter if it is for an automatic or not?

honda MTF manual transmission fluid. from the dealer.

some ppl use pennzoil or gm synchromesh.

i would not recommend regular engine oil. engines and trannies require different additives.

and yes, automatic oil is different than manual tranny oil.

Why do you say this when our OEM Service and Owner's Manuals say its okay? Now I know that MTF wasn't around then, but I don't see that as a reason to stop using oil.

Yes, MTF is better because of the additives, but the oil is just fine as was stated, when the car was made thats what was used and thats what was recommended to use until MTF came out. MTF is compatible to use in older "oil" trannies also. I've heard the GM Sycromesh is 2nd best to the Honda MTF but I don't stray from the MTF so I'm not positive on that. Some other car manufactures do use ATF for their manual trannies but not Honda's(my Saturn does, and older Mustangs do too;don't know if they still do)
