89CRX, DX, stock.

What do you recommend for a daily driver with stock parts, that would be best for braking and cornering, just street?

I have 13'' steelies on it now with whatever tires that came with it.

I already HAVE 89si 14'' alloy wheels with bald tires on them.

Are the 14'' alloy wheels any good? Would I be better off getting a combo from tirerack for some lightweight (but not uber light weight as I do not want them to dent if I hit a pothole) 15''s? Preferred wheels?

Role of this vehicle is daily driver, so probably 'performance' all-season. I can put snows on the 14'' alloys or the 13'' steelies if I am recommended to use the 14''s...

I actually enjoy my little 13in steelies (with these tires) for driving around in my stock wagovan... They aren't much for cornering, but they make the aging suspension feel comfortable. I had the same wheel/tire combo on my winter beater civic, and they ripped it up in the snow... had great traction. They are also really quiet.

If you want something more suited to aggressive driving, then I would put some 195/60/14 performance tires on the alloys...

Yeah, it is just a DD... I bet the alloys are pretty fine, but I want to see if some one can sway me to make a purchase.

But wouldn't the wider 14'' provider more traction/quicker stopping? Also 14s are supposed to be a little more comfortable, I think I read...

 

if you dont have too much cash get HX rims with 195/60/14 azenis...

 

HX rims are worth spending $ on when I already have the Si Sawblades just sitting?

i dont remember the weights offhand, but i think the hx are 11lbs each and the si sawblades are like 17-18lbs each...big difference in weight, plus the hx rims are 14 x 5.5 instead of 14 x 5, so you are gaining some widith as well as losing weight...

 

get some used rota 15x7 or 6.5's for cheap and get a set of new falken azenis. great for daily driver. keep the steelies for snow tires for the winter

 

Are HX rims OEM? Or is that the manufacturer? Best place to procure? Pick and Pull? Online? Watch the for sale area?

Also, wouldn't the 14'' Sawblades be best for Snow/Secondary tires, and ditch the 13'' steelies, which I would assume weigh more?

HXs are from 96-00 Civic HXs. They are made as OEM wheels by Enkei. Their width is 5.5", which is better than other 14" wheels from Honda, but that's not saying much LOL. I consider them good enough for daily commuting use, but not wide enough to be a performance wheel. The do have a nice design.

I also recommend getting a set of lower-weight 15x6.5 or 15x7 wheels.

13" snow tires are dirt cheap, thats what I use. studded snows FTW
