welding truck ;p
just figured i would show you guys my new-to-me welding truck before i start modifying the deck
it was owned by an elderly man who used it for less than 6 jobs and then retired from welding. heh
it's a 1995 dodge ram 3500 SLT Laramie V10 with 61700kms on it.
the welder is a 1989 Lincoln 350-CDN
it welds real nice, i didn't have anything to weld though so i'll have to update this thread with pics of some little projects when i buy some grinders and a chopsaw for it and get some rod.
plans include removing the horizontal bottle storage rack and extending the passenger side cabinet to accomodate both oxygen and acetylene bottles so that my gauges are not out in the weather. i'm also going to get a cheap canadian tire brand tool box and fit it in the drivers side cabinet, run a ground loop to the work deck, install another vise on the passenger side of the truck and build a rack for the chop saw in one of the cabinets or a new cabinet (haven't decided yet.)
I'm also going to build a few compartments for carrying extra material around.
and finally i'm going to paint the whole deck black, the primer gray color is pretty hurtin i think heh

$1200/yr for the truck, but i also need Commercial General Liability / Oilfield Insurance since the truck only covers the truck itself not the attached machinery and tools.
yeah i'm planning to use it for business heh, i do gas plant facility welding and maintenance, i may also do some pipeline work but i don't know if i really want to get myself in to too much 6010 downhand work in the mud. lol

The sideboxed are filled with rods, tools, air guns, bolts, washers, drills, bits, etc. The truck's springs are effed haha. Ford quality = turbo leaking oil 24/7

Yeah man. Leaks oil like its main job. We live in NJ and my dad works all over the east coast, anywhere from VA to Maine. He puts miles on those trucks like no tomorrow. He's been with his company like 7 years and went through 4 Ford diesels.
holy crap what a mess!
okay i put in a couple days work on the cabinets and built myself a roller and a bracket for the pipe stands .
first thing we did was get rid of the rack for mounting the oxygen bottles horizontally (you'd have to be ******* he-man to lift a full oxy bottle in to them, goddam no wonder the guy i bought the truck off of had a fucked back.)
i had to make a drop floor as well as raise the roof of the passenger cabinet to fit an oxygen bottle in it, we also made a wrap for my hoses inside the cabinet and mounted my rod oven.
i'll take pics tomorrow in the light, i still haven't painted it completely, just touching up the spots where i welded & cut out **** from the cabinets.

Maybe a bit off topic, but..
Why doesn't he consider the Triton V10 model? My dad has had 3 F350s (03, 05, and now 08) and has NO engine troubles. Only reason he gets a new one is because he just wants the newer model, and passes the older ones down in the company. His line of work is Propane, so the truck gets a lot of use and abuse, not to mention 250mi trips every (other) weekend from my parents going to their cabins Tennessee. It, also, runs on Propane if that makes any difference (the conversion is a few grand, but he has a switch under his dash that allows him to run propane or gasoline.. pretty neat).

My dad doesn't buy the trucks himself. His company does for him and supplies him with his gas card and what not. But, my dad HATES Ford, he's a big time Chevy guy. He just bought an 06 Silverado 2500HD to haul our camper. He also does allllooot of miles, so I guess things are bound to go wrong. And I have the propane conversion before, it is very cool.

a good shot of the dual exhaust i just put on. you can also see where i dropped the floor on the cabinet and raised the roof (everything i've welded has been painted black so it doesn't rust, it's just temporary until i am finished modifying the deck and then it will all get painted black)
you can also see the pipe roller we made for it and the fire extinguisher mount we fabbed up. behind the fire extinguisher is a mount for pipe stands, there are only 2 on there at the moment but i will be carrying at least 4 pipe stands and 1 grinder stand.
i spent a **** ton of money buying tools for this thing and i still don't have a torch or regulators for my oxy acetylene yet heh.
ah well more **** to do more **** to do.
i'll update better pics and some of the inside of the cabinets later maybe
UPDATE! w000t!
okay i'll try to caption all the pics as best i can.

Rollers! I hate wraps, so much unnecessary work. these are 100000x nicer

i think they look 100x better too!

i haven't really done any modifications to this cabinet, i do need to find a toolbox to fit in the bottom and cut some of the hangers off.

i put on the threaded rods to hold my grinding discs & chopsaw discs.

this cabinet had a bunch of drawers and crap in it before and the oxygen bottle was mounted across the back deck, I raised the roof and made a drop-floor for the bottle to sit in, it's tight but she fits!. i still need to paint the inside of this cabinet once i mount the torch. i have to get a different acetylene regulator too, the one i got was wrong.
the blue thing is my rod oven, which is mounted 1/8" above the floor so it isn't wrecked. there is also a small cubby hole that you can't see in the angled part of the raised roof. 100ft of hose wrapped on the door, and the torch needs to be mounted on the door yet so that it doesn't get damaged.

the flat bar is my straight edge for the cutting torch. and you can see the fire extinguisher mount that my dad made (better than the ones they charge you $60 for! hah!)
the bottles do not move with that bigass ratchet strap on them, and there is a 1/2x2" flat bar that runs around the entire cabinet to brace against the forces of squeezing the bottles.
