Default need quick help with a Civic

Im good with cars but not with Hondas.
A friend owns a Civic, 2002 I think, His CEL is on.

Im sure there is a way to pull the codes using a paperclip or similar, but I cant figure it out. Can someone point me in the right direction.

Ok new problem.

the ECU is not located in the Kick panel like that tutorial describes.

Where is the ECU in this car? And does it still have the unterminated jumper wire connector.

Neither.

The term EG is commonly referred to as all 5th gen (92-95) civics as the "EK" is commonly referred to as all 6th gen (96-00) civics. It's wrong, not all 5th gen civics are EG's and not all 6th gen civics are EK's, it's just a commonly misunderstood belief or phrase that people use.

As this forum says "civic/del sol '92-'00" it does not include '03 models...

There's a separate forum ('01+) for that.

Though to answer your question:
Take it to any autozone, advance auto, napa auto parts, pep boys, etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. ANY of those places can hook it up to an OBD-II scanner and scan it and they'll do it for free. Just do that, takes <5 minutes.

As for the paperclip, you can do that on 5th and 6th gen civics, as for 7th, I'm not sure. Just take it to an autoparts store like autozone and tell 'em you're throwin a check engine light and they'll hook it up to an OBD-II scanner and tell you what's wrong for free.
