Default 02 sensor

well.. was on my way to work today and my car started boggin threw the gears.. kinda felt like it wasnt getting fuel.. or was runnin on 3 cylinders.. then i threw a CEL light.. went to get it read and its coming up bank1 02 sensor which is the sensor in the header.. would that cause it to run fucked up here and there? i had in mind a fouled spark plug so i changed those just incase cause there were kinda bad..

no it wont cause it to run bad, all i can think of is lack of fuel, spark, or worst case <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by jayare05 &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">.. or was runnin on 3 cylinders.. </TD></TR></TABLE>

^^^^ I agree. I changed my O2 about a week ago, the only thing I did before was check engine light and get around 22 MPG. performance was the same.

People drive on bad o2 sensors all the time.
Only thing that kills you is idle and gas mileage.

got this info off a o2 sensor site.. is this possible??

Because the sensor reacts to oxygen in the exhaust and not fuel, any engine problem that allows unburned air to pass through the cylinders will also trick an O2 sensor into reading lean. A misfiring spark plug or a leaky exhaust valve - even a leak in the exhaust manifold gasket - may allow enough air into the exhaust to screw up the sensor readings. It won't damage the sensor, but it will create a rich running condition that hurts emissions and fuel economy.

You can try and fix it. I think they are like $100 though. And most of the time a bitch to get off.

the o2 sensor is an input to the computer to adjust the air/fuel ratio. so yes it can make ur car drive like crap. almost all the sensors give an input to the computer to control the air fuel ratio.

when an O2 sensor goes bad the ECU will think it's running lean. So it will add fuel, and add fuel... till the ECU hits a limit of fuel it can add and set the CEL.
during this adding fuel stage the car will bog and run really crappy. It can also add so much fuel at some parts of the range that it can foul plugs. (I've seen it more than once)

replace the plugs, unplug the O2 sensor. see how it runs. (you will have the CEL for the O2, don't worry about it right now) If the car runs ok, but not great, replace the O2, clear the codes and you're finished.
