Default Stock block B20VTEC revving

What are people with stock block B20VTEC's revving to?

I'm considering putting on a VTEC head(B16) on my B20 block, but I know the bottom end stock isn't that well at revving high, but if using a stock B16 ECU, I don't see the point of VTEC kicking in at 6krpms and then shifting by 7k due to the stock bottom end.

Does anyone else have this situation? Is it worth having the VTEC even if it's only 1k rpm's worth? Or are people revving the stock bottom end higher?

Get it dyno-tuned using a programmable ecu and find out how much power you're making and at what rpm. You'll be surprised how much your stock honda motor can handle. Motors break mostly because of bad tuning..

I agree. High rpm's don't matter if your not making power. As far as the stock B20 bottom end...they are not made to rev as high as a vtec version because of the bearing clearence is too tight and at high rpm's the motor can burn up. I've seen them spin bearings at 7600rpm's. It all depends on the condition, the tuning, the oil and the valve train. I personally have taken my stock B20 bottom end to +8500rpms but kinda nervous to take it to 9k. Then again I relieved all of the pistons for valve clearence and have a type R head.

As suggested by EF_LSVtec, get a programmable ecu and a reputable tuner.

Vtec head is worth the trouble.

I'm running hondata and crossover at 5k. Aside from type r cams, the motor is stock, top and bottom, makes peak power at 7800 but I seldom rev that high. With the lower vtec crossover, you can stay in vtec even when shifting at around 7k or so.
