Alright, Im trying to do some research on how I can upgrade from my current STOCK brake callipers on my 95 civic ex coupe with 15x6.5 rims. I don't think there any any aftermarket callipers out there that are small enough to fit my rim.

But would CTR or ITR brake callipers be better than the stock civic ones I am running? I believe those cars came stock with 15x6.5 tires as well but overall Im trying to find out what options I have if any to upgrade callipers with this size rim.?

You can use itr calipers, yes...they will bolt to your knuckle...you will need 11" prelude/itr rotors redrilled to 4x100.
You can use standard integra calipers also, which require no modifications to anything on your ex (since they use the same rotor diameter). These are 57mm pistons.
Hell, you can use NSX calipers too.

Any thing you upgrade to, will require a larger master cylinder, than your current 7/8" unit - either 15/16 or 1".

This is all true unless his Civic has ABS. If it has ABS, then he already has a the standard integra calipers w/ 57mm piston, not the smaller 54mm piston on the NON ABS EX coupe. It will also have the larger ABS master cylinder to match. If you have ABS, then I recommend you leave the system alone. The ABS computer has specific algorithms to operate the existing brake system...

If you don't have ABS, then making mods is okay, but each one will effect your brake balance and thus effect stopping distance. If your brake balance is too far rearward, you will loose braking stability. If it's too far forward, you will be stable, but increase your stopping distance.

- Type R front brakes (11" rotor & one 57mm piston) WILL increase stopping distance unless you convert to large rear discs.
- Using NSX calipers (36mm/40mm pistons) w/ an 11" rotor can help retain proper brake balance.
- Legend calipers (38mm/42mm pistons) are a third option if NSX calipers cause a loss of stability (too much rear bias).

By my measurements, the EX caliper was a 2" diameter, putting it around a 51mm piston, tho i could be off.

94EG and pdiggidity are right, they are brake masters so I'm here to say yes they speak the truth.

by the way, these pics are of 16s, but I have checked and 15s clear just the same, I have tested. (excuse the pic whoring)

The ITR 11.1" brakes and...



11.1" NSX front brakes. The NSX bias alteration is there, but negligable on all but a track (unless your tires suck and are without ABS like me.)

 

Hey BrakeExpert, I was looking into possibly doing an upgrade on my '93 EG6 Si and I went to FastBrakes.com and then made a phone call to them and found out that the diameter of the 1994 Si's discs are larger by what ??mm's over the '93 units? Sorry, in not getting that number, it has been a while and I have forgotten the difference. Is that true?

Do you know if the steering knuckles are the same, since the discs are reportedly different and what would have to be changed in a NSX swap other than the calipers and master cylinder?

 

If your car does not have ABS equipped, and you have the ugly little calipers with no hangar on the mount, they are 9.5" diameter, compared to the 94-95 ABS'd models with a 10.3" rotor. Not sure the whole EG language, but if you have the 10.3" stock brakes, you can upgrade to the 11.1" Type-R setup.
The 9.5" brakes and 10.3" brakes on the EGs are different and the steering knuckles are different between the two.
If you have the 9.5" stock brakes, you have only one option without changing knuckles, and that is this custom job I rigged up.



Its the stock steering knuckle from DX civics (same for 88-00 9.5" brakes.) To it is bolted an ITR caliper, milled bracket, 10.3" rotors and pads that were filed a little to not make noise since they come SO close to the rotor's hat.


Should you be interested in either setup, I have the brakes for sale, and can machine them if you need.

i dont know if there avalible over in the US, but to save having to redrill the itr/'lude discs, you can purchase 282mm discs for this upgrade from a MG(rover) ZS180 from over here in the UK, they will go straight on!

It might be more headache than it is worth just sending over the pond for that. The other part of that is the cross-populating of parts, unless they are identical,,, but then again it brings it back to the cost factor of getting it from there to here. Good info though.

Yea the MG Z8 rotors would be good, except for the cost thing. I can ship anyone in the US Prelude VTEC rotors redrilled to 4x100 for 100$ shipped. Lot cheaper than getting those sent overseas since USPS just cut their cheap ground shipping. Airmail only now, doesnt that suck ***.
