Sway bars.

 

you will get mixed answers on this one.

some say performance, others will say style/looks.

the reason i have them? my old LCA's (stock ones) the bushing's were shot, and i wanted to add a rear sway bar, and for cars without them (EG hatches for example) thats an easy way to get the mounting point.

will they make your car ZOMFG!@!!!11111 fast? NO

will the make your car handle like a dream? NO

will it replace a busted/worn out OEM arm, and let you put a swaybar and get some bragging points, while MAYBE saving 1/10 of a pound? yes.

now, is all that worth the price? that depends on you. you can get integra arms with the sway bar attachment or new oem arms for half the price.

 

do these eliminate the need for the subframe brace?

i want a sway bar($50) but paying $200 for a brace is rediculous

nope.

$200 for a brace beats replacing the rear subframe...

 

depends what car you have.. The si's came with a reinforced subframe like the integras but the other civics do need some kind of reinforcement if you plan on running a bigger sway bar..

and the lca's are basicallly for the BLING factor

 

so well are they worth getting since imm buying the coilover kit most likely from skunk2...or if im getting lower control arms...should i get a rear sway bar too? ....

 

i bought the coilover adjustable springs from skunk2 and I'm quite happy with my purchase. Nice ride, not bouncy.. Well, it was when I slammed it at 3.5 inches, but when I raised it to about 2.5-2.75 inches, it's nice now.

 

actually aftermarket LCA are about 2 lbs. lighter than OEM, each.

 

From my personal experience with my stock LCAs on my EK i would imagine that after market LCAs are actually stronger and would stiffen the rear end up from flexing... actually when i put my camber kit and rear struts in, when putting the LCAs back between the brace on the car i had to use a pair of channel locks to actually twist them so i could get the bolt in... this just shows that they are much weaker than after market LCAs are... i have not installed any yet, but i would imagine that with after market LCAs you would eliminate some "wobble" from the rear when going around corners with bumps or something like that

Edit... However for my old EG... those bitches were strong so i dont think you would see a difference there... but th EKs are like a thick stamped steel type...

You have to be in for some massive stress and damage to "flex" your LCA before the bushings themselves flex (which they are supposed to do).

I have rear LCA's because they look fancy .... that's it. I used to have a stock swaybar that used LCA's as mounting points, and that's why I originally got them, since my CX LCA's had no holes ....

but now, bling.

 

yea, i would say easy, and cheap bushing replacement. the stock ones suck. and theyre about $25 each at the dealer plus a pain in the *** cutting them out. i did it the hard way.

 

Good question, I have some that I bought with my omni coilovers, they're pretty and shiny but i bought them on recommendation because I was told the stock ones would break eventually, with the new suspension... but there's more of reason than that? or no..

 

your stock LCA should NEVER "break" unless you slam the car into a damn hole or something. the part that "breaks" is the bushings eventually get worn out and tear. there are civic's running around with over 200k miles on the chassis's at this point, and im sure plenty of them still have OEM LCA's.

like i said, the only reason to replace with performance arms on a street car would be to add a Sway bar mounting point, or for a little bling on the underside of our cars. or an expensive way to replace place the torn bushings.


if a honda is well maintained, and not beat on 24/7 it will practically run forever. your not going to break a rear LCA unless your doing stuff you shouldnt be doing.

 

so by getting the LCAs im replacing the bushings which may be worn out on my 11 yr old honda?

 

LCA's though they look like car jewelery... actually have a function! Not everyone can appriciate the bennifits of these parts but if used in the right enviorment will show a huge advantage.

Most people justify the cost of adding these to their list of mods simply because they need new busings and or they need an LCA that supports a Swaybar.

 

they perform...but if youre not doing serious *** track driving...then you wont feel the difference. unless your bushings are completely shot (mine were) and you put those in. but again, thats if you drive hard and really take notice of how your car moves in turns and whatnot
