Default tire help

i have a set of 15 x 7 kosei k1's and they need a set of tires. i have decided on either a set of falken azenia 615 or kumho ecsta mx's. both set in 205/50/15. which ones would be better for auto x/hpde and why. the last set of tires i had were falken azenia 215's. help.

Autox/track = Azenis

Track only = Shaved MXes.

If you shave the Azenis it will be faster still than the MX, but the MX will hold up to heat better on track.

If they are only for autocross and HPDE, I would go with the Azenis. Better traction on dry pavement. The MX will do better on wet pavement and will last longer than the Azenis (not as long as many other tires, but longer than the Azenis).

If you're going to shave the MX, then you would probably be better off going with a full R compound. (This assumes you have a fair amount of track experience.)

i have a set of r-comps already, kumho victoracer v700. i am on my 2nd set of those. these will be mainly for auto x and some street use. there is only a $20 difference between the 2 with shipping with the kumho's being more.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by ithrowpoop &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">i have a set of r-comps already, kumho victoracer v700. i am on my 2nd set of those. these will be mainly for auto x and some street use. there is only a $20 difference between the 2 with shipping with the kumho's being more.</TD></TR></TABLE>

Then you can use the Victoracers for the autocross, and maybe the longer-lasting MX might be a better bet for the street. Or even something even longer-lasting and less aggressive and even better in rain, like the Kumho SPT, Yoko ES100, etc.

The only way I'd ever buy a Kumho MX is if it was shaved to at least 3/32". Otherwise that tire really sucks at full tread. It's squirmy and I don't think the grip is all that great unless you get them pretty warm.

Have you read the comparison of the Azenis and the MX in Grassroots Motorsports?
