Default PSPEC owners

could someone please explain (or take a pic) why the pspec shift boot does not work with the stock shifter?

is it some sort of unique shape in the ring at the top?

The boot is designed for a much shorter shifter. The stock shifter is WAY too tall for the boot to fit it.

The rig at the top is designed to fit around the smaller shaft diameter, found at the top of the shifter. If you fitted this over the stock shifter, I don't believe the PSPEC boot would even reach the trim ring at the bottom.

To give you an idea, the PSPEC shifter is what, 3 or so inches shorter than stock? Well the boot is BARELY long enough to fit around the trim ring, WITH the PSPEC shifter.

sounds about perfect. i cut my stock shifter down almost 3" and the regular boot is way too long.

i also don't like how the collar moves around with an aftermarket ****.

i'm getting the pspec boot and ****, so hopefully i can make them work

on a stock cut shifter?

If I remember correctly, the PSPEC boot is made to only fit the PSPEC shifter. The inside of the boot collar is probably machined to match the machined shaft on the PSPEC shifter.

Correct. That's another reason why the boot won't work on a 'cut off' stock shifter. That far down the shifter, the shaft is too large.

Not to mention the **** is threaded, and too small to fit on that thick part of the shaft as well.

That was basically my original question.

But I can't really see anything special about the shaft in any of the pics I've seen.

Hopefully I can make it work.

According to PSPEC the **** uses the same threading as stock Honda, so I don't understand the problem.

And I don't plan on sliding the boot way down the shift lever, I'm hoping mines trimmed enough to work.

I guess I'll find out in a week or so whenever I get the stuff.

Look at your stock shaft. See how it becomes larger just after the threading? That is too large for the PSPEC boot's collar. It is also much larger than the part of the shaft that is threaded.

i was looking into the 7th gen boot, wasn't aware those two could also work.

but i got a good deal on the pspec and it looks nice, so i'm gonna try

yeah, i was planning on having the collar sit on the threaded part of the shaft and just screwing the **** down as far as it will go.

here's my cut and re-threaded shaft:

mind taking a measurement like this:

to see how far off i am, and if there will even be a chance of the boot being long enough.

thanks. btw, if you can't read the ruler is 5" with the round **** (in neutral).
