Default Racing Muffler Tech/Cost Question

Question,

Aren't all straight through canister mufflers the same in regards to performance?
If so, then shouldn't generic (knockoffs) mufflers do the same job as those expensive mufflers. It's mostly in the mandrell bent piping that really gives it the +hp right?

If so, then isn't paying $80 for generic universal muffler better that paying $180 for name brand stuff.

Reason why i'm asking is because I found this muffler at http://kp61.net/store
and thought it would be resonable since the guy was selling it for $80 plus shipping.

The inner silencing material differs between manufacturers. Some brands use different and/or lower quality materials that may not last as long and eventually deteriorate due to the heat, making your exhaust get louder and louder as it ages. If you're speaking solely from a performance perspective, then yes, as long as it's a straight-thru design and the ID is the same, the muffler's will flow/perform similarly. But to me, I look into quality and durability for all my purchases as well, not just performance. If I were an racing team that could change parts every now and then when they wear out, no prob. But for a hobby, I don't want to have to purchase replacement parts all that often. HTH.

just as example....
The mugen twin-loop axel-back is a very good muffler. Then you can get a muffler shop to custom make you a b-pipe. couple that with a hi-flo cat.
