new help on an old topic???
so i found this post about doing your valves springs and retainers....

and in it it says if you are using new valves with an old head it wasy you need to overlap them....if you go llok and that link you will understand what im talking about......
but my question is what does this mean??someone else asked the same question but no one replied to them.
so yeah any help would be great.

You must mean "lap" the valves not overlap. This is a procedure that helps to condition the surfaces of the seat and valve where they meet. You should look for a write-up on this by searching for "lapping valves". It basically involves applying some lapping compound (gritty material) to the edge of a valve and then inserting it into the valve guide. The valve surface should be touching the seat at this time. Then you use a lapping tool (basically a suction cup on the end of a stick) and gently spin the valve in its seat using a washing machine back and forth motion. This will grind the surfaces and remove any imperfections. You then remove the valve and clean off the compound. Examine your results and repeat if necessary.
