I have a D16y8 motor and I need a new D series tranny. Which one is the best D series swap? And wat is the difference from a D16y8 and Y7? thanks...

If you have a d16y8 engine, go with the d16y8 tranny. It will serve you well.

y7 is the dx transmission- really looonggg gears not good for acceleration more for long highway drives
y8 is the ex trans- much better gearing for acceleration

if you want good performance go with either a 92-95 ex/si or a 96-00 ex trans
it will have a round stamp by the fill plug in the case i believe that will say B000

dx stamp shows A000 make sure you check these marks before you buy it. ive had places try and pawn dx trannies on me saying " oh they are the same" yeah right

s-20 is 92-95 model
s-40 is 96-00

also watch the used transmissions you get ive had two recently that had bad bearings

CX tranny (92-95) has longer gears than the Y7. Friends hatch went 80 in the top of 2nd gear.

the 92-95 shift forks are weaker then the shift fork on a 96-00 thats the only difference.

Default Forks

One is steel and the other is aluminum I believe. So one bends and the other snaps!
