Funny Clunking sound from right rear shock
i have kyb agx shocks on my 98 civic ex
they all ride stiff, none of them have lost their damping abilities
but when i go over obvious bumps (potholes, lane dividers) i can hear a very apparent, hollow, rattly, clunking sound from my right rear shock. i'm not sure it's my shock but nothing i can think of could make that sound. it doesnt happen on the left side (drivers side) over the same bumps.
currently my trunk is gutted and dynamatted so i kno theres nothing loose in it.
anyone else have this problem?

My girlfriend has this problem, very occasionally. Try jacking up that side of the car and tightening every bolt related to that shock. Also, the spring could be improperly aligned on the shock, and could be slipping in and out of place.

mine does this as well, but its in a 98 hatch. Same side, same shocks. But my shock is blown. Oil all leaked out.
Im thinking its the trailing arm bushing. cause mine is torn as far as i can tell.

damn, you beat me to it.
yes, a blown shock/strut will give off a clunking noise.

i'll check my bushings later, is it possible the rubber wears down so much that you get metal-metal contact?
and also, how can you tell if a shock is blown? can it ride fine and still be messed up on the inside?
