yes
yes
Use crossovers to cut out the bass. Using passive ones makes no sense, because at the point where it doesn't sound clear, you are clipping the amp. Using active crossovers would be the way to go, but it's not possible with a stock headunit.
ok car is 96 honda civic with stock speakers in the fronts and some alpines in the back and a kenwood cassett player that i plug my mp3 into. i have no amp connected to the system because my base, which sounds great by the way, is just hooked up to one of the rear speakers. my problem is that when i turn the volume up it sounds like ****.

thats why you are getting the fuzzy sound
get a head unit that has an AUX input for your car. the tape deck converter doesnt really put out a very high quality sound and put out that fuzzy sound because of the connection between your tape-to-headphone converter that u connect to your cd player; its not meant to put out hi-fi sound at all.
If not possible to get a converter, turn ur actual mp3 player up instead of the tape deck; that should help but i really recommend getting rid of the tape deck

Get a cd player that plays mp3s.
Get a cd player that plays mp3s.
Are you saying that you have a sub connected to one of your rear speakers?
That's a big no-no.
If you get a 4 ch amp, you'll have clear sound at higher volumes.

get a cd player that has an auxillary input. I got an AUX input device for my alpint cd player so i have a RCA-to-headphonejack converter that i can plug into that. so then i can hookup anything that has a 1/8 heaphone jack output on it.
or some other cd players have an auxillary input that have a 1/8 headphone jack input so ull have to get a 1/8 jack male end to 1/8 jack male end to connect it. time to get rid of the tape deck
Also if you do mean that you have a sub hooked up to your rear speaker, i would disconnect that immediately. that could be part of why your speakers sound like crap too.
im not falming you but on a personal note, i hate ghetto things in car audio. hooking up a sub to a rear speaker is pretty ghetto. people should do things right. after seeing and fixing a lot of peoples car audio problems, i see why some companies void their warranty if not installed by a certified professional

the only reason i did it is because my amp sems to not be workin. when i hook it up with the battery, ground, and the other sender cable and the two head unit cables, i connect a peice of wire to the amp from my rear speaker to the terminals on the amp and all my speakers go silent instantly. then when i remove the wire i get sound again. by the way its a kenwood amp
garbage in, garbage out.....
your system is only as good as the weakest link, where in this case you have lots of them, but the first one you have is your mp3 player.
mp3s sounds crappy to begin with and generally the headphone output on them are pretty dirty/distorted. make sure you keep the volume level on your sandisk mp3 down (maybe 2/3 volume max) so your stereo isn't amplifying all the distortion and clipping... but then you'll run into the problem of not getting enough volume.
if anyone is connecting an Ipod to an aux input, make sure you get a cable that connects to the bottom of the Ipod through the docking connector as the output is fixed, line level and a lot cleaner sounding. connecting it using the headphone output sounds like poo....
