That is a considerable ammount I think. It should balance the weight of my turbo setup eh?

Depends on what hood you are using some of the hood have metal bracings and just laid over C/F while other are all c/f.

I believe some hoods are a single layer, and some have 2 layers like a stock hood btw

I'm pretty sure the only way you could save 30lbs is by running with no hood at all . . .

The entire stock hood with latch, weatherstripping, insulation, emblem, and squirters barely weighs over 30lbs. 35 at most.

It also depends on which carbon fiber hood you're looking at. Some are much heavier than others.

15-20lbs is a more realistic number for weight savings.

usually fiberglass hoods weight less then carbon. About 99% off all the hoods out there are overlayed carbon. Meaning they make a fiberglass hood then overlay it with carbon.

I had similar measurements. My SIR VIS hood weighed 16lbs and the stock hood close to 30.

I dont know what kind of car you have but if you have a crx and want to drop a lot of weight for cheap get a hf bumper support its much lighter.

it made with less material to save weight. most of the weight saved on the HF is it's knuckles, bumper support, less sound dampening material. compared to it's DX counterpart.

Carbon fiber molds are made by waxing a hood and making a mold of the hood. Its also possible to wax the hood, and directly lay the carbon fiber on the hood, using the hood as a mold.

Fiberimages Carbon Fiber SiR Hood:

fourthgenhatchb17: OEM EF9 metal hood is 29.4 lbs
fourthgenhatchb17: EF9/8 of course
fourthgenhatchb17: FI weighed 13.8 lbs
fourthgenhatchb17: less than half

Larry's Kevlar one was about 2-3 lbs less then the others.

Depends on the quality of the workmanship involved and what type of underskeleton they use.

Thats 95% of the weight of this type of hood.

yea but its fiberglassed, and along the way they decided to make it an abomination of epic proportions.

i havn't seen anything that ugly since 1997, that was a serious blast from the past in terms of vomit/burp sensations.

you're aware you'll be forced to run full hoodpins, the factory latch cannot hold that flimsy thing down....
