Default Could dizzy timing cause code 8 and 9?

Could a really badly timed dizzy cause code 8 and 9 on a B18A swapped EF? Dizzy is OBD2, OBD1 ECU. No other CEL. The dizzy was giving me issues. I got a spare from a friend for now, and I went and bought myself a new one. The new one runs mint, his caused CEL 8-9 to jump on my car, and caused his CEL to come on in his B18C5 swapped EG. Yes I ran an OBD2 VTEC dizzy on my LS engine for 60 kms, sue me.
