ok i got my hands on a i think jdm eg cluster the needles are red and the speedometer reads kilos...can i change the face and put on the cover of a usdm cluster so it reads mph ? the reason i want to do this is because i like the red needle look and heard that its not good to tamper with the needles..so painting the needles it out of the question..

 

Well to change the face, you have to take the needle off, or you can just swap out the entire speedo/odo assembly, in which case you'll get the white needle of the old speedo...

I've never heard that you can't paint the needle though. I think that would be the easiest. Much easier than taking swapping needles and trying to recalibrate your speedo.
