HelP! I macked a curb at 15mph with my 90 crx b16
i was so pissed...my wheel is closer to the back of the wheel well...i already replaced my lower control arm and driveshaft......i think its a little better maybe but still is off by about an inch! what else do i replace? will it ever be the same?...
If you were doing 15mph it is most likely either of your front sub-frames. Replace them and have fun driving you car again. It should be all good again.
No i was talking about the rear crossmember the one that the lcas attach to, Iv seen it get bent from colisions before... I doubt the front one is your problem but ya never know...
replace your steering knuckle... im sure that is whats bent
im sure if you take it to an alignment shop they will tell you exactly whats bent

take it to a body shop, an alignement shop does'nt have the tools to measure out the chassis. if you already replaced your LCA then look at the two 17mm bolts that hold the front crossmember on, look at to see if they moved at all, if they moved then you will be able to see the old bolt head markets etched into the paint, generally when you loosen these bolts you have 3-4mm of adjustment front to back, it could have gotten pulled forward by the radius rod when the wheel got hit. Do the same for the rear crossmember as if it bent then most likely it moved a hair, and by a hair even .5mm makes a difference. if you hit your front tow hook on the curb alot of times it will just barely kink the frame rail enough to move the x.members back and screw up your wheelbase. to see if the knuckle got bent anywhere look for fresh paint flaking with freshly started rust, usually if its slightly bent thats how you find out. If none of this helps you then get a tape measure that reads in mm, a tram gauge would be great but i don't think your a body guy so i doubt you have one. measure from the lower ball joint studs on your front end to a symetrical point in the middle/rear of the car on both sides, compare measurements. if your wheel is infact back then this will tell you how far back it is. then do the same thing again but measure from the inner most part of the LCA. If the measurements come up different here then your problem lies in the subrames/chassis, if your measurements here are identical then your chassis is straight and the problem still lies in your suspension. to see if your x-members are bent you need to measure from the mounting bolts on both sides to a symetrical point in the rear of the car. try to measure as accurately as possible and if you do it right, trust your numbers, they don't lie. figuring out the problem is alot easier than just throwing parts at it. i'd say if its back no more than 5-6mm then you can probrably get away with loosening the x-member bolts, use a prybar to push it where you want it to go and tighten the bolts back down, measure again until your wheelbase is the same on both sides.
hey godruler thanks for your reply... the front crossmember did move i tried to move it back but it didnt make much of a difference when i moved it over that bit i think it's in fact bent to the point where i need to replace it.... the knuckle i wish i could find one used but theres no crx's in any scrap yards around here....so i guess im going to buy a crossmember and see if thats bent

Blew right front tire on impact, bent rim, bent Lower control arm, bent the radius rod a smidge, and cracked the rear crossmember.

like i said before though, forget about eyeballing stuff and guessing what might be bent, start measuring, measurements will never lie and will always lead you directly to your problem and will save you time and money in mis-diagnosis
there was snow on the road..the day before i bought gsr swirlies with falken ziex tires tread is not that great...was in a parking lot...curb was 20 ft... tried to stop... nothing... tried to pull e brake...(cable streched) nothing....
Ok, for future reference pulling the e-brake will never cause you to stop in a shorter distance, unless your e-brake is attached to a parachute or some sort of anchor. Both cables wouldn't stretch, your wheels just both would lock and lose traction.
