Default From Rags to Riches

Hello all. Some of you may remember I started a build thread for my 91 red CRX Si.

Well I ran into some shitty *** problems:

3 weeks ago, my D16a6 timing belt snapped, and I parked it for a week. After a GDD poll, I decided to put my spare D15b2 in the car and I was back on the road, rather then buying a different car.

Welp, It's been 3 weeks since that engine swap, and last night my tranny took a **** on me. On my way to my friends house, I let off the clutch and it started to violently vibrate my whole car. I somehow managed to keep shifting and get it to my friends as it vibrated like crazy.

I proceed to go out and get some beers, come back and try and drive the CRX home. I get halfway home and I hit it in 5th and the car just revs. I try all of the gears and it just revs, so I coasted a 1/4 mile into a bar parking lot and called it a day.

Today I got a ride to work, and after work I picked up a new car.

1987 Civic Si hatchback. Black on black with 174,000. Car runs like a dream and is mechanically better in every way over my CRX. I plan on DDing it for a while, but will eventually lower it on my panasports and do a new exhaust as it has a hole in the current one.

Will post pics tommorow of the wrecker crx and the 87 si. I'm really excited as this is the first non-crx I've driven in almost 5 years and will be the only car I've ever driven thats NOT a CRX.

I'm either going to be parting out all of my CRX parts and selling the 91 si shell, or I'm going to fix her up on my own time and make it a weekend warrior. We shall see.

This is the beast CRX that keeps dying on me. Not sure if I should keep it or sell it and buy a motorcycle.

and this is my new hatch

My only real plans is to get my 14" panasports (black with polished lip) repainted with new tires and put them on the civic. I also might look into lowering the civic, I hear its a pain in the *** though.

Also:

Custom Front Lip
New exhaust
Tuneup
Possibly installing older prelude seats, I hear they're comfy as hell.

While I'm driving this beast, I'm gonna rebuild the red CRX at my own leisure

Say what???

Anyway, congrats on the find. Really nice 3rd gen Civics are virtually extinct.

Oh yeah, how come you have a picture of a chick sneezing in your avatar?

not a huge pain in the ***. just have to pop the torsion bars off and refit them a couple notches lower than previously along with springs in the other half of the car.

fit the springs first, see how that half sits and them do the torsion bars to match it.

So do you have to buy new torsion bars up front or can you lower the car with the stock ones?

Thanks man.

I'm researching redpepperracing to see what I can do with this bad boy.

My immediate plans are to find 86-89 Integra seats that will swap right in with the civic rails. I also hear 4th Civic seats can be made to fit so I'll look into that.

Also run 86-89 Integra Injectors (more fuel) and the all-popular pg7 ecu which I already own.

With that extra fuel, I'm gonna run a bigger TB and a new intake to balance things out.

I want them both dammit! haha

If my Dad lets me, I'm gonna strip the CRX down and do a fresh rebuild. I'd probly order a new motor/tranny, and get all new suspension.

The 87 civic will be a great daily driver, but I plan on doing a few different mods to keep me happy.

Stock ones. The rear you'll have to lower using different methods though (ground control actually makes coilovers for the rear for around $160).

Thanks man...

There is so much random **** in the engine bay, I wanna disregard all of it. Random vacuum lines, A/C, boxes and **** on the firewall. I want it all gone like my CRX.

Does anyone know what I can and cannot get rid of? I imagine getting rid of some of the lines will cause my car to idle like ****. If I was smart I wouldn't touch it

Your 3rd gen is clean! I always like them but most people have to have an acquired tast for them. I could of sworn I seen this one in the classifieds on here in NJ? Its so hard to find a clean one though. Their so boxy looking but I like the old school look. You should find a cheap integra swap D16A, theirs like a million of those things in the junkyard in NJ & PA and you could probably get the swap cheap like $200. I'm going to have to buy one of these things. Their are so many parts for them in the junkyard, they are every where. I'm rambling like I own one....

Damn nice steal of a 3rd gen (I hope you didn't pay TOO much for it - little old ladies = cheap Hondas in good shape people!).

Any serious rust issues? Taken off either of the bumpers to check yet?

Also, I'd keep it stock and not swap a browntop in there. No reason to ruin what is definitely somewhat collectible to the right people. Lucky bastard to snag an Si with the PGI too!

Have fun

Yea I got it off of shauniewalnuts in the NJ forum. He lives down the street from me and I seriously needed a car.

As far as the D16a1 swap goes, that wont happen for a looong time. I hope to see this baby last as long as I take care of it. If/when stupid bullshit starts happening, then I'll consider a dohc swap.

I was sick yesterday, but managed to install my cd player, and I put in my nice condition crx si floor mats. They fit realll nice and help out the interior a bit. Once I gather some more cash, I'm gonna search the junkyards high and low for some clean 86-89 Integra seats and maybe some integra injectors/throttle body for future mods.

I'm also considering lowering the car in the near future once I find a good write up to do so. Prepare to see a black 3rd gen dumped on 14x7 black with polished lip panasports, with a nice clean front lip
