WTB: '01 EX for $7,900 at dealer good choice?
I just came across a '01 EX sedan in auto with 92,000 miles the used car dealer wants $7,900 for it and says it is super clean? In Excellent condition KBB says $7,500 private party?
see what they likely paid for it, check the trade in value on said model and try to talk them down as close to that as possible. Usually they cannot go any lower than what they valued it as a trade + 600, just keep that in mind. Also remember you have the most leverage at the end of the month when they want to pump their numbers the most.
It is being sold at a repair shop. I Carfaxed it and it was a dealer serviced, one owner car. The Guy will NOT budge from $7,500 witch is Private Party Excellent condition.
You will ALWAYS loose money when you buy car from a dealer or for the KBB Excellent condition price. Keep in mind that you will need to do a full service on the car including timing belt, water pump change which usually runs about $600 for this service. When you do this though, you most likely will have a car that will last you a long time which should not have much mechanical issues.

You said it is being sold at a repair shop. This is not a dealer!

If a repair shop is selling it, it might be likely that something was wrong with it and they bought it from the person for cheap and fixed it and selling it.
Every used car is a hit or miss situation. Since carfax said this car was good, I would take the chance though. All I am saying is that this sounds like a decent car that will last a long time if you take care of it. You will not 'make' money from it, but you might not loose as much money in repairs/reliability issues if you go with this and take good care of it.
I bought my 94 Accord 4 years ago with 85k miles for $3.5k. I have spent a decent amount of money in preventative maintenance, but it has yet to leave me on the side of the road. Buying it with 94k miles is the half life of the car. You do this maintenance now, and you will be rewarded many years to come.

You were right! Had my independant Honda mechanic check it out. Said rear bumper replaced an bondo in pass side rear quarter panel! Front was replaced at some point as well! man I can't find ANY nice Accords around here!

Yeah, that is pretty common around here in Portland, OR too...We call 'em "builders". A lot of bodyshops buy out 'almost' totalled and or totalled vehicles and re-sell 'em at what 'appears' to be a reasonable asking price. Then when you investigate the car a lil' further you learn that the real truth! Ya gotta watch those shady ones! Anyway, it's probably always a good idea to drop the $80 on a pre-buyer inspection when you're about to drop $8,000 and a new ride.
